Since I only had ten minutes to go over 34 resumes, I focused on the organization and objective of the resume. It wasn’t an easy job to go over in that short time. I could imagine employers going through numerous resumes by almost just flipping each page. I realized that it got to have something outstands than others to give strong impression. When I went over the resumes, I focused on first how well it was organized and I took more time to read ones that had a clear objective combing purpose and ability of the writer. Also it gave me a good impression of explaining work experience in detail but still concise, including key words and not missing key points. I realized that delicate explanations support objective as well give clear picture of what the writer did through work experience using its ability. I see other classmates have chosen some same resumes because they were well organized, gave clear idea of their ability and work experience. In such a short page given also a short time to be reviewed, it must be nicely organized for reader to follow easily and all the contents should be explained clearly yet not too short .
Lots of resume were impressive but I think page 9, 18, 21, 22, 29 stood out the most. The 5 resumes I choose have a common factor of providing clear detailed objective at the same time matching its objective with their activities, skills and especially work experience. Because first thing I get to read was objective and before I move any further by just reading the objective, those that had distinct purpose and ability that outstands than other gave a strong impression. It made me wants to read more and find out how the writer used its ability matching the purpose with work experience and activities.
I learned more than I expected from this activity. First Instructor’s blog has provided me basic concept of how to write the resume by explaining each steps and giving some short examples. However this activity was one step further to the reality giving me a chance to actually look through real resumes and try to be at the reader’s side. Now I got some clues on what to work on revision. I should focus on organization making the reader easy to follow and explain more in detail in work experience still not to sound like repeating or boring.
