Reading Reponse Week 5

The brochure I found is informational developed by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security explaining about preparing pets for emergencies. It is divided into three sections giving more details of getting a pet emergency supply kit, planning what you will do in an emergency and knowing about types of emergencies.

The brochure used front and back of tri-fold layout looking well organized. All two pages put closely related images and text to show effective proximity. It created a meaningful relationship by using pet images and detailed information of preparing for emergencies. Especially I liked the picture of a child and a puppy lay down next to each other on the first page with the phrase, preparing your pets for emergencies makes sense. I think it gave a good example of closeness between image and text.

The spatial layouts of elements on a page in discernible patterns were well displayed on page 2. The detailed information were designed in consistent alignment but to emphasize each section, instead of the putting the section numbers in the same low, it used diagonal line. It was very effective and interesting by putting the numbers in diagonal line because it matched to the order of first, second and third step giving a guideline what to start preparing first.

It used complementary color on page 2, green and red bringing an effect of easy to understand. The background of whole page was green still consistent to page 1 and used each section number with large font in red able to recognize and find each step quickly. It also included image of parrot and dog not to make the brochure too boring only formed with information.

I loved how they organized the contents and effectively used spaces with neat layout. It was not complicated or untidy but eye catching which I want my group’s brochure to be looked like. In our group’s brochure, I will try to put enough information still not looking like it’s a textbook. Readers won’t take such a long time reading brochure so the text must be easy and simple to follow yet including accurate information.
