This week I contributed to my group significantly. I was the first person to send out an e-mail to the group to get the details on the best time for them to meet online in the provided chat space, or on Instant Messenger. In my e-mail, I asked that each member provide their AOL Instant Messenger screen name, the time they could most conveniently work on things, and their time zone so we could figure out the specific time frame for each person. I also assigned partners for different parts of the project. Two of us are working on the “look” of the brochure, and the other two are writing the copy.
Next, I decided on my personal goals for this project. I really want to receive an A grade in this class, and therefore would like to receive an A grade on this project. One of my goals is to learn as much as I can about the logistics of creating a brochure for a company like the non-profit organization we were provided with because I would essentially like to write the copy for projects like this in my future professional career. I set up a chat time with my group for Thursday, July 12th, 2007 so we could discuss our goals for the project together, and then put together a Gantt Chart with our deadlines on it.
I ran into a few problems with the chat page, and so I started a Gantt Chart on my own so that I knew how to do it and could maybe help my group the next time I connected with them. I had difficulty with the chart since I had never even seen one before, but I think I did a decent job anyways. I sent my half-completed chart to the group hoping that it would sufficiently supplement whatever they had worked on. I received an e-mail back from my partner, Melissa, and she told me they had integrated our charts together.
