This week has been dedicated to coming up with ideas and creating the general information brochure. I did a lot of research about the Humane Society on the internet as well as other similar organizations to get an idea of how to best create this brochure. I also spent time thinking about the best ways to communicate effectively with the target audience, which ranged anywhere from children to adults. I decided that the best way to do this was to keep the information as simple as possible, and also to present it in a way that is easy to sort through and pull out key points. I feel that I did a good job with this; however, I still want to work more to decrease the amount of text used. After coming up with my ideas for the text of the brochure, I began to format text according to whether it would be used as a header or body text. I also adjusted the size of the headers and applied a color scheme to the entire brochure. I chose a scheme that made the background start with a blue color at the top and slowly fade to a light silver at the bottom. For the text boxes, they start as a darker silver and then fade to the same light silver color as the background. I thought that this gave the document a neat look that would attract readers. It came up with other creative ideas to use for the brochure. For example, I used images of paw prints for bullets in the list of supplies needed. I also came up with the names breeder, pet trainer, and animal lover for the three different levels of sponsorship and presented the information in a pyramid to better show the different levels on a scale of how much one would have to donate to be at that certain level. Again, this was to make it easy to read for the reader. I think that it clarified the information. My brochure still needs some work. I will be using the comments from Ryan to assist me with these changes, but I’m off to a good start.
