Arrangement: This podcast has one host (George), and George interviews a person who has advice for the episode for “One Minute How-To.” George interviews Marianne, and allows her to give a brief description on what she will be talking about. She then has one minute to explain how to save money when shopping for groceries, and how to avoid falling into the marketing tactics used at the grocery stores.

How often do you find yourself falling prey to marketing tactics while you are out shopping? Do you think this advice is helpful? Do you think this advice will save you money when purchasing groceries?

Another question

lefty150 — Sat, 09/27/2008 - 18:27

Do you find the introduction helpful?

When she starts talking its

almost famous — Sun, 09/28/2008 - 10:55

When she starts talking its sounds like a infomercial. Its so scripted. The introduction really made me not want to listen to the rest because she really just made me feel like I would be scammed, even though her info was just the opposite.

I agree

lefty150 — Sun, 09/28/2008 - 17:10

I agree that this podcast sounds scripted. Do you think that by being scripted it helps or hinders this podcast?

Unimpressed

islington — Sun, 09/28/2008 - 16:51

I felt like the start almost hurt the credibility of the podcast. The woman being featured didn't seem to know what she was really talking about. She has a blog and is trying to publish a romance novel? Why should I take this woman seriously? I also felt her advice was pretty much standard advice I've heard time and time before. The entire podcast felt like a commercialized, scripted plug than genuine advice. Of course, the audience that the podcast is targeted to, probably isn't me. Still, the overall tone, arrangement, and approach the podcast too was honestly pretty ridiculous.

I agree -- it does sound a

turtle power! — Sun, 09/28/2008 - 20:24

I agree -- it does sound a bit scripted. She does go though her list of tips rather quickly and doesn't really pause in between each item she speaks about. I know the podcast is to be a brief, short one, but because she spoke so quickly, people will probably have to listen to the podcast several times, just to retain any information from the podcast.

I ALREADY WROTE A BLOG ONCE

s5m32l3 — Sun, 09/28/2008 - 20:47

I ALREADY WROTE A BLOG ONCE AND THE WEBSITE DECIDED TO GO BACK, AND DELETED MY BLOG ENTRY! SO......A SHORT VERSION OF WHAT I ALREADY WROTE ONCE IS............

I DIDN'T WANT TO AGREE WITH EVERYONE ELSE, BUT WHILE I WAS LISTENING ALL I WANTED TO COMMENT ON WAS THE SCRIPTING. IT MADE THE PODCAST VERY BORING.

ANOTHER THING WAS HER TIPS WERE A WASTE OF TIME. NOT A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE GOING TO TAKE THE TIME TO RESEARCH AND COMPARE ITEMS. PEOPLE JUST WANT TO GET IN AND GET. OLDER PEOPLE MAY TAKE HER ADVICE, AND EVEN THOUGH COLLEGE KIDS WANT TO SAVE MONEY, THEY AREN'T GOING TO TAKE THE TIME TO DO THE THINGS SHE SAID! I KNOW I WOULDN'T.

I PROBABLY FALL INTO THE MARKETING TACTICS ALL THE TIME, BUT EVEN IF I DID TAKE HER ADVICE I PROBABLY WOULDN'T SAVE AS MUCH MONEY AS I WOULD TIME.

LOUD NOISES!!!!!

LOUD NOISES!!!!! BWAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

uugghh

cechambe — Sun, 09/28/2008 - 21:04

Ok, its already been said before, but this podcast sounds as if it were read right off the paper, for the first time. I think that a person could probably save money with her advice, if they can stand to stay awake for the whole podcast. Although I highly doubt this podcast is intended for college students like myself I don't think this podcast's arrangement or strategies were clear before the podcast was recorded. I don't know if its a plug for a book/blog or something that is supposed to help you save money.

Groceries

boiler16 — Sun, 09/28/2008 - 22:36

I think agree that it sounds like an infomercial in the beginning. It also sounds scripted, but the content was really useful. These are things that people need to think of when shopping to keep from spending a whole lot of money. I think this is podcast is effective.

I try to think about this advice when shopping, but it doesn't mean I always follow. When you are consciously thinking about these, they do help save money.

I like how music was in the introduction and then when the lady started talking, the music stopped. I think this is a great way to let people know that the introduction is over and now the stuff you need to listen to is coming up.

Response

I thought that the idea for this website is a very good idea. There are many people that do not have much experience in certain areas, such as grocery shopping that need some tips. I really like the websites idea to cover many topics.

I thought the introduction to the podcast to be worthwhile. She mentioned what she would talk about, so the listener would stick around, even though it was only a couple minutes. The only problem was that it seemed that she was reading directly from a script. There obviously should be guidelines for what to talk about, but a podcast should have a conversation feel to it. I don't think it should sound like an audio book. She started to lose me toward the end.

Interesting...

RhythmRunneR — Mon, 09/29/2008 - 01:33

I found this podcast conveniently short, but the shortness is what actually hurts it. While it does quickly provide a great deal of information, it was spewed so fast my brain hardly had enough time to take it all in. Combine that with the fact that most people already know that stuff and you have a recipe for one bad podcast. As for answering those questions, I rarely find myself falling prey to marketing tactics without realizing it. Sure, I do occasionally buy things I didn't intend on purchasing while waiting in line, but a rational decision on whether or not that item fits within my budget was still being made in the process. I was expecting more useful information like ways to find products with lower prices, but since that wasn't provided I don't believe this information is very helpful in saving money on groceries.
