As a forewarning the podcast is around an hour. A lot of this however is episode summary. So if you would like to skip past this, I don't blame you, I usually do. But it is something to consider in your response.

The podcast is a Heroes fan podcast which is released weekly during the time which Heroes airs on TV. Sometimes the show also airs during the hiatus when enough news is released, and during other special events. The audience is obviously fans of the show Heroes. If someone does not watch the show, listening to a podcast about the latest episode probably isn't the best idea. It is meant to be a companion to the show, providing analysis, headlines, spoilers, and reader input. The podcast is released after the show airs, and is useful for reminding you what happened last episode, and things to consider for the upcoming episode every Monday.

Because of it's length, it may be hard to digest the entire episode. However, the length is used effectively, offering a recap of the entire episode, followed by insight based on those events. If you already know what happens, this is something easily skipped. The show itself tends to last a little longer because it is a much more informal affair. The two hosts speak in a professional manner, being hosts to several other TV show related podcasts. However, they speak to the audience as if they were casually talking. After listening to several of these podcasts over a period of time, it gets to the point where you almost know the hosts personally. I think this helps greatly to gain a more invested fan base.

How do you feel about the length? Would removing the episode recap help or hinder the podcast? Does it feel like it could stand on it's own without the recap?

I think they could split this

I think they could split this up into two episodes. A recap episode and an insight based episode. This would allow the length to be cut shorter. It would also allow the audience to pin point exactly what they wanted to listen to.

Great idea. I think that

Great idea. I think that would go a long way to helping make the podcast a little bit more easy to digest. While I typically listen to it while working on other homework and whatever, it still is quite a time investment. By splitting the podcast, it would allow those who want a recap to listen to the recap, while those who just want additional insight can listen to that.

Heroes Podcast

I agree that the Heroes podcast could be split up into two separate casts, or divided into at least two chapters, as most podcasts/players support chapters. I do like having a recap, especially if you missed an episode, but I also feel that the commentary could stand alone, assuming listeners know the basics of the subject episode.

Of course, they are already splitting up the podcast into two parts, this one being about "The Second Coming" and the next part covering "The Butterfly Effect," so really we are saying it could be split in to four total parts.

Also, I think it's interesting that they mention one of their casts are recorded live, and not completely pre-scripted like most. I also like how they have their own website for the podcast - heroespodcast.com - and they don't rely completely on a service like iTunes for distribution. I think this would greatly increase the size of their audience.

A few things just to clarify.

A few things just to clarify. The second part of the podcast is going to cover the second episode of Heroes that aired back to back with the first episode. So technically, they are two separate podcasts for two seperate episodes. However it's considered "part two" because of the way NBC scheduled the episodes.

The podcast recorded live was actually during the airing of the episode so that you could watch and get their insight as well and communicate live with them and listeners. I agree that they take the podcast and put it a step beyond what normally is expected of a podcast. These same people have a podcast for Smallville and The Sarah Conner Chronicles, so they are much more experienced in that regard.
