Big Screen Movie Reviews

s5m32l3 — Wed, 10/01/2008 - 16:19

Listen to episode #83. It should start playing as soon as you click the link below. DO NOT DOWNLOAD THE MP3 FILE! IT IS NOT THE SAME!
http://www.celebrationcinema.com/?pid=30205

Purpose: The purpose of this podcast is to get insight on the latest hot new releases and sneak previews for upcoming movies.

Audience: The audience would be people who want to know what the latest movies are and get a little bit of information about them.

Context: anyone who has a computer could listen to this to get some insight on the movies, instead of reading about them or it could be broadcasted on the radio and people could listen to it in their cars.

Medium: The medium is an mp3 file that can be downloaded, but I think it’s a lot more interesting listening to it right off the website instead of downloading the file.

Strategies: Ron and Ramona have different and funny voices in the podcast, if you listen to if off the website. If you download the file, then their voices are normal which makes it a little boring. They also talk very fast, but you can still clearly understand them. If you play the podcast from below the picture and not from the mp3 file then they talk like this in every episode. But they have the mp3 file in case the voices are annoying or are too fast for you.

Arrangement: The podcast starts off with an advertisment, then they go on and introduce themselves, then tell about last week’s movies. They then go through and talk about all the upcoming movies individually, explaining a little bit what the movie is going to be about and tells the main actors/actresses in the movie.

I liked the way it was set up and moved very quickly. I also liked the voices, it kept it entertaining. My question to you is: Do you think it would have been better if they would have slowed it down and kept their normal voices?

I'm not sure what you mean by

islington — Wed, 10/01/2008 - 17:32

I'm not sure what you mean by funny voices. The woman host sounded decently normal, and the man apparently had a cold so that was understandable.

I found the plug at the beginning a little much but understandable to support the podcast.

I appreciated the brisk pace of the podcast. Tells a little bit about the film, several I had not heard of (though most of them don't look interesting at all) and whether they are worth your time or not. It seems like the are pretty impartial in terms of genre, no favoring on over the other.

Overall a strong podcast. However I again don't really understand the funny voices point you were bringing up. There are slight differences between the MP3 and the one on the site, but only a few. It seemed like the same podcast to me. Maybe I'm just deaf.

What I am hearing they are

s5m32l3 — Wed, 10/01/2008 - 19:41

What I am hearing they are completely different. (the website and mp3 download) hmmm...maybe you didnt listen to the same one as me, I dont know? But I dont think that the voices I heard are their real voices. Well I hope not anyways. Did one of the voices sound like the voices on the chipmunk movie? Thats what it sounds like to me.

movie review

boiler16 — Thu, 10/02/2008 - 12:39

I think that this podcast is great for people wanting to see a movie that particular week. I like how they gave a brief description of each film and talk about the main actors in the movie. I find this very helpful because sometimes previews can be misleading. To have someone tell me a little more about the movie would give me an incentive to go watch the movie if I was considering going to the theater.

I did not hear the funny voices either. I thought what I believed was their "normal" voices sounded great and was not too fast. The message was clear, and the arrangement was also planned well. I would listen to this again when I want to go to the theater to get an idea of what movie to go see.

This podcast is a great way

NEWMAN — Thu, 10/02/2008 - 17:07

This podcast is a great way for people to hear what movies are coming out in the current week. I really enjoyed how they reviewed the performances of the actors and the actual story itself. I also liked how they played clips from the movie that didn't really give away any plot elements, but instead gave the general feel for the movie.

The pace I thought was great for the specific purpose of the podcast. I thought that the voices were there normal voices except that the guy has a cold. The girl sounded like she was from Minnesota, so I assumed she was using her normal voice.

MAYBE I'M JUST CRAZY AND

s5m32l3 — Thu, 10/02/2008 - 21:17

MAYBE I'M JUST CRAZY AND THOUGHT THEY HAD DIFFERENT VOICES! IF THEY DO, I LIKE THEIR VOICES!! LOL IT MAKES IT MORE ENTERTAINING!

Wow, this is the first

PyroJing — Fri, 10/03/2008 - 00:15

Wow, this is the first Podcast I have listened to with an ad, which almost made me want to stop listening, not something I would want when seeking out a simple podcast. I also wished they would have given an overview of all the movies they were going to review before starting so I would know if I were interested in a particular one to make me want to listen. I like how they played sound clips from the movie to give you a feel of the movie. The clip went on a bit to long though. They do a good job listing off info on the movie, but to me the guy sounded too boring and the lady had a kinda annoying voice, someone like me wouldn't be the audience, but I could see an audience for this.

where... was... the... review?

RhythmRunneR — Fri, 10/03/2008 - 00:18

I didn't hear anything odd about the voices either... as for the pacing, I thought it was pretty good as it was. If they had slowed it down it might become boring as there were many movies to cover. The only problem I noticed was that these people actually don't seem to be critiquing anything! By the title one would expect movie reviews; that is, opinions on whether or not the motion pictures discussed were effective pieces of entertainment. Contrary to those expectations, listeners are instead presented with the level of adult content in the material (pointless since this can be easily determined through the MPAA rating), a basic plot overview, a snippet of sound from the film, and the conclusion that yes, this movie MIGHT do well in the box office, and yes, if you like this kind of movie it MIGHT be a good one for you. They fail to bring up any negative aspects of the films they discuss, which is absolutely absurd unless they truly believe ALL these movies are flawless works of art. In fact, many of the films deemed "good" by this mindless duo have achieved horrible ratings on sites like Rotten Tomatoes, which averages the ratings of critical reviews across the nation. This annoying habit of maintaining a positive opinion made the overall "review" relatively pointless, more an advertisement for upcoming features than an assessment of cinematic quality.
