This week our group continued working together the way we have been for the past weeks. Our group emailed each other our availability for Monday. We ended up meeting in an AIM chat room Monday night. We discussed as a good some of the changes we need to work on. Each of us reviewed the comments from the instructor over the weekend and we discussed some of the key issues that needed to be changed. Some of the issues that we focused on were mainly the text and changing some of the columns around to make them less crowded. We put all of the ideas together and started working on it.
5:00 Appeal to Emotions: +
Our brochure does a good job at appealing to emotions especially with the pictures that are included in each section. The pictures of Santa serving a turkey, picture of the front door of the CFRC, and pictures from a past dinner event elicit emotions from the reader. The pictures show the readers that the CFRC is a warm, loving place to spend the holidays.
4:00 Be Professional: +
Our group met in an AIM chat room to discuss which group members will be writing their own part on a topic needed for the brochure. I typed my part on the information about the CFRC Christmas Day Dinner. Our group had decided the night before on a time to meet the following where everyone could meet at the same time. I emailed all the members my section to review. Once our group met the following night, we exchanged all of our parts to be reviewed and put together our brochure.
After reading Chapters 24 and 37 of the Thomson Handbook, I realized that our group has been following the principles. The main principle that I see throughout our brochure is in Chapter 24 on page 559 dealing with the design and layout elements. Our group thoroughly discussed how to display our visual content in order to catch the reader’s attention. Our use of color is bold but not distracting to the message of the brochure. We utilized lines around our pictures which showed professionalism and form.
The first week went very well and was quite productive for our group. I sent out an email about myself after I found out who my group members were. I introduced myself and the times I would be available throughout the week. I met my other group members in an AIM chat room and discussed the Gantt Chart and some upcoming projects. We worked on the chart together and gave each other ideas and information to add. We all worked together on this first meeting to figure out the dates of projects and how we would spilt it up.
After reading Chapter 1 in the Thomson Handbook on Writing and Rhetoric in Context, I understand that it is important to write in a manner that expresses your ideas and words in a way that will impact the reader. When writing a letter to a specific audience such as jetBlue Airways passengers, it is essential to make sure that the readers know that you understand their perspective and want to answer any concerns they may have in the letter. Chapter 1 also explained the importance of linking the knowledge, experience, and feelings to both the reader and the writer.
