I expect the substance of this course to be based on how to properly write different documents for job search and for documents that will be used in the workplace. I expect a large portion of this class will be devoted to job search and the professional writing that goes along with that. Much of the text that was assigned from The Thompson Handbook discusses these materials. The substance of this course will also introduce us to writing documents that we will face in the business world and workplace and how we can use the technological resources that are available.
I expect to become more comfortable and more aware of the proper techniques to use in professional writing. I am also interested in learning how to search for a job and how to write a cover letter and resume that will be relevant to the job that I am applying for. I thought that the job search section and activities on pages 220-223 of The Thompson Handbook were interesting and could be very beneficial. I feel that I will also learn about business documents that I am not that familiar with and be able to effectively use them in my career, such as white papers and recommendation reports that were noted in The Thompson Handbook.
I am going to use this opportunity to expand my skills by using the resources that are available to me through this course, such as the online resources and the text. With these resources I will familiarize myself with the material and be able to better understand how to write effectively in professional situations. I also plan to become more aware of the different types of documents that I will face in the business world so that I will be able to use them properly.
