Reading Response Week 1

Through the duration of this course I think we will learn how to write business documents like resumes, cover letters, memo's and case analysis. The class is designed to help incorporate the rhetoric situation into our writing.
As mentioned on page 219 there are different kinds of writing technologies which yield different responses from readers. We thus need to learn how to revise our writings based on the technologies we use. Since this class is online I think we will have a great opportunity to use technology to our advantage with the help of this class.
Also based on the examples and guidelines given in the text book I will be able to address specific problems in my writing like using proper heading in a resume to using the proper format to write a memo.
I hope to be able to use everything I learn in this class to be able to communicate more effectively during my current internship as well as in the future with my colleagues and future employers.

Agreement

Just as you are, I am also looking forward to using the technology we have access to in this class. I'm not sure if you or anyone else has the same experience, but I have not ever had the opportunity to blog for a class. It seems that you and I have the same ideas as to how this class will assist us in our professional writing skills. Is there one specific thing you hope to learn? For me, I think that I would really like to learn some things about business e-mail etiquette, and I have noticed not too many others have addressed this topic.

I Agree

I am in agreement with both you as well. Technology is definitely important in the business world today, but many of us will never have the chance to use and test out the same things that businesses use until we find ourselves in that situation. I also have never had the chance to use a blog before, but I welcome the experience because understanding how to use it could help me in the future. I did not include this topic in my blog, but I would also like to learn about how to properly write an email when looking into jobs. It is something that everyone needs to know but has probably not been taught until this point. I think that the online nature of this course will address exactly the issues like this.

I Also Agree

I am also in agreement with the three of you. This is my first online class that I've taken and I wasn't sure what to expect but I like the interaction between us and the medium in which it is done. I think posting comments and blogs is more beneficial for me because I learn and understand things better when I read them. It is often difficult to comprehend what a professor is saying if there are distractions in the classroom. I also think the use of technology will be very valuable to us because we will be able to critique each other's work. I would also like to learn how to write a professional e-mail. I know I have used abbreviations or shortened words before in e-mails with my friends and I want to make sure I separate the professional and personal e-mails at all times.

I agree

I think you and i do have the same idea of what we want to get out of this class, I think the most important thing though is the one you talked about- e-mail etiquette.I am still really shaky on how a proffesional e-mail should be written. I also love that we can blog in this class, I too was a little skeptical about taking an online class but I am quite thrilled with how its going so far. I think one of the biggest problems in todays world is miscommunication because of e-mails, I think this system will help us prevent that kind of a problem in the future

I think you make a good point about the opportunity we have in this class using technology. This is my first experience with taking an online class. and so far I have enjoyed it. To be honest, before Monday I had never even written a blog. I feel by using this medium of technology, we have a different approach to getting feedback on our writing. As you mentioned. the books seems to compliment the online nature of this course. I have written cover letters and resumes, but not memos or case analysis. Being able to learn these other professional writing techniques can only broaden our communication skills.

I also think I need to learn more about how we need to change our writing according to which technologies we are using. I find it interesting that something written in a text message can be much more lackadaisical than if writing in an e-mail on your phone. I find these technologies very similar so I wonder how we got to the point where our writing technique for these different methods can vary as much as they do.
