After completing this first reading for the class, one thing was apparent to me. I liked that this class focuses on the continued importance of quality writing. It doesn't show us how to find a job (resumes, cover letters, etc.), but it also will teach us how to write once we obtain a job (memos, white pages, etc.). Although some of these topics I have learned through different writing and career focused classes, others are new to me. I expect to be challenged to perfect my resume and learn how to write a quality cover letter. I hope that when this class is complete, I have a resume that I am proud of and understand how to update it when needed. I am also anxious to learn how to write new documents. Because my current job is in an office and I am constantly communicating through email and phone conversations with different people and offices, I plan on putting my knowledge from this class into place right away in my current internship. One of my favorite aspect of the reading today was in the Glossary of Usage. This is a great resource for people like me who struggle to know when to use "who" and when to use "whom." I'm planning on referring back to this throughout the class and I wouldn't be surprised if I copied it and saved it for use after the class is over. I like how the books works step-by-step through things like taking inventory of skills before deciding what job will suite you well. This also helps with writing a resume to evaluate your skills and abilities before putting them on paper. I'm excited to learn plenty of new skills during this class and even more excited to put what I learn into use at my job.
