Upon completion of this course, I expect to have gained a better knowledge of rhetorical principles and writing practices. I would also like to learn to write memos, letters, reports, and other business documents more effectively. This was an area I have always wanted to improve on. Even though I took ENG 106 and COM 114, I don’t think either of those would have taught me as much as I am bound to learn in this course. Since it’s a senior-level class, I expect to be educated on all of the necessary tools and skills that will make me a well-rounded and qualified candidate for future jobs.
There will be instances where I will take advice straight from the readings and apply it to my everyday life. For example, I will utilize the memo checklist that is on page 232 when needed as well as what the white papers consist of. I have only written one memo for a class and did not know what I was doing. The format and amount of information necessary is somewhat foreign to me and it never hurts to learn something new.
There are indeed many types of interfaces people communicate through and many more to come. Whether it is using a pen and paper for school work or conducting business information on Microsoft Office we are all boung to use different types of writing technology. On page 219 it discusses how developing strategies to become accustomed to a variety of communications is important. I could not agree with this more. We are entering a booming technology era where things are becoming more complex. Blackberries are a good example. When they were first introduced, many people had to understand how it worked in order to get things done within the work place. That type of interface in and of itself is just the next generation of new things to come. Regardless of your occupation, you will need to become familiar with certain applications if you want to be a successful individual.

I agree that courses such as Com 114 and English 106 did not teach me as much as I will learn in this course. I think that could be due to the different contents in the courses. At least for me, I find this course much more relevant and I feel I will use this material for the rest of my life. I also will utilize material such as the memo checklist on page 232. I believe learning by pointers and good examples will allow this material to stay with me throughout my professional career. I also thought your blackberry example was a great example of the ever changing technology in the workplace.
