While scanning the contents of The Thomson Handbook, I found a lot of information about technical writing and writing appropriately for an audience. For example, the table of contents lists sections on writing critically, presenting information, and writing using technology. The glossary also provided a lot of useful information about this text, especially about technology. I expect this course to put a heavy emphasis on technical writing. I hope to learn more about how to effectively communicate my ideas to an audience. I already know how to communicate but I think this course will help me become more effective. For example, sometimes I know what I want to say but do not know how to say it. Often times the delivery can make or break me getting my point across.
After reading section 12 in The Thomson Handbook, I now know more about professional writing in the business world and the workplace. This section really makes me see the importance of professional writing. I expect that we will practice writing items such as resumes and cover letters in this course. The information on how to write a cover letter is very helpful. I have not been taught how to write one but I have learned how important it is to market yourself in this letter. The information presented in this section to include such as why I am interested in the job and why I am qualified prove very useful. I know I will use this information in the future to apply for internships and jobs. I also hope to learn more about how to effectively write a resume to attract recruiters. I already have exposure to this process but I could definitely use more pointers. Every bit of advice helps, such as the tips to make a resume more aesthetically pleasing. I learned a lot about how to make a resume scannable. I know a lot of companies use computers to initially sort resumes but I did not have an idea about how to make my resume pass the first inspection. This section has really shown me that we will be learning a lot about professional writing in this course. I look forward to learning more and refining my skills.

I agree with the idea of making my resume look more appealing, You are right as you mentioned that most companies scan the resume and use the computer to sort them. I really want to learn something to make my resume strong enough to pass through the first inspection. The 1st thing that the employer sees in the process of hring you is the resume. If the resume isn’t perfect, then there is no chance of you getting the job. Hence I agree that all of us are here to build a perfect resume that can grab everyone’s attention.

I agree with your view on the technicalites of writing. Since our world is starting to be much more reliant on computers, it is very important that we learn to successfully communicate on them. Communication is also a very important thing in today's age. We need to know how to communicate both in person, and in situations where we are not face to face. When I signed up for this class I was worried that I would be missing out on the full effects of it because I was taking it online. I figured that I would probably not have direct contact with any other student in this class, but maybe it is an advantage because we will still need to learn to work in groups even when we are not all in the same setting. It helps us to learn to communicate with technology.
