Job ad analysis

The job position I chose is strategy business analyst at Accenture. Accenture Group is one of the largest global consulting firms in the world. This company deals with business consulting, process design work, and the application of technologies to business. To produce successful solutions for clients, company seeks creative ideas out of traditional paradigm and unique future predicting skills from employee. Through this job, I believe that I will be able to begin my career as a professional data analyst as well as a consultant. The job description tells me that I will be exposed to the whole series of works including analysis, strategy making, and application. I think I will be mainly exposed to business marketing research and analysis.

I chose this job for several reasons. Firstly, Accenture is one of the largest and famous consulting companies. Working with a lot of competent experts, I want to learn and improve myself. Secondly, some friends of mine are working or have worked at this company, and I could get more information about what kind of projects this company deals with. Working in the competitive condition seems exciting to me. Moreover, this company is represented in Korea also, and I might be able to move to Korea someday which means I can stay with my parents. Lastly, the work place is located in Chicago. Fortunately, my favorite city in U.S. is Chicago, the center of banking and finance next to New York. Living in a big city, I will be able to enjoy my job.

This job stresses high fluency of one or more computer programming languages. Since I took a Java and C classes at Purdue University, it seems that I don’t have any difficulty of using computer programs. Moreover, I took a graduate-level SAS programming course which is widely used among statisticians and analysts, so I have somewhat of an advantage in this aspect. It is required to have academic track either in statistics, mathematics, engineering, or management. Thus, my major is statistics and mathematics; I am on the right track based on this information. Working as a consultant in this firm, the employee has to be a strong team worker as well as creative thinker. I took programming courses related to team projects while at Purdue University. In addition, I was involved in a study club in which its members listened to the AFKN radio and argued about the issues brought up from it every week in Korea. Even though I don’t have any professional consulting experience, I am going to emphasize on the resume that I have sound cause-and-effect thinking ability and that I am a good team player and have interpersonal skills. Also, my academic records show that I am a highly motivated person for this job.

Accenture

Good job - a friend of mine works at Accenture and had a good experience there. His work has also gotten him into Berkeley's MBA program, so it is a highly reputable company as well. I like your strategy to deal with the fact that you don't have any direct consulting experience. This is the situation of many college grads who haven't worked in the fields they're targeting. Focusing on transferrable skills desired by the company is a great tactic. Many corporations want people with more intangible skills like team work ability and cause-and-effect thinking because those are harder to instill than the nuts and bolts of the business. If you can demonstrate those skills - especially in other corporate environments, you should be able to present yourself as a match.
