Veterinary Technician position

The position I found and am interested in applying is described below: Animal Emergency Clinic of Central Texas is looking for a full time veterinary technician. To be considered for this position you must be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays, and be able to work 10 to 14 hour shifts! They are looking for a reliable and punctual technician that has the ability to work calmly and efficiently under pressure and maintain good working relationships with a variety of personalities. The job states that you must be a self-starter and able to effectively utilize down-time. The job requires either a minimum of one year experience as a veterinary technician or an RVT/CVT license. I chose this job because I have been working in the vet field for going on 7 years now. I have worked several of these years as a veterinary technician. I have wanted to work for an emergency center so I could have experience with critical patients and of course get to see all the interesting cases. The hours aren’t the greatest but it is an emergency clinic that needs to be open when regular clinics aren’t. I believe I have the skills needed to apply for this position because I have worked for so long in the field. I am able to anesthetize patients, prep the m for surgery, as well as complete all necessary treatments on them including x-rays, blood work, and placing IV catheters. I am confident in my skills and know that I have the ability to get along with a variety of personalities. Interesting position

I'm glad to see that you have so many of the tangible skills that the clinic is looking for. That will help you stand out in the crowd, because they will probably isolate candidates with those skills. It also sounds like you are the personality who will fit at the clinic, which is the other key to getting positions like this. They want candidates with the abilities and the demeanor to function in this environment. When I got an internship in college, I actually had the hiring woman admit that they chose me because I had the personality to fit in at the company, so don't under-estimate that factor as you present all of your strong skills.

Interesting Position

This position sounds great. Being a dog owner, I really appreciate it when we go to the vet for the vet tech to be very professional and easy to talk to. We have always had good luck with our vet, but I am sure the field could use more knowledgable and professional employees. So if this is your desire please pursue it. I would hate to go to the vet one day and our dog not receive the best care possible. If this is your passion, I am sure you would be good at your job.
