Reading Response 5: Brochure

The brochure that I found it attached and can also be found at:
http://frontline.au.merial.com/pdf/frontline_brochure.pdf

This link actually contains two separate brochures made by the company Merial. Merial is a company that produces products for pets. These two brochures are for Heartgard and Frontline. I am going to focus more on the brochure for Frontline in my reading response.

Frontline is a product that is used once monthly by pet owners to prevent flea and tick infestation. The brochure that I found has a very eye catching cover. It shows an adult with the dog and a child near which then may make the consumer think, I’d better protect my dog to keep these fleas away from my family. The company broke down the inside and back of the brochure into sections of questions and answers. The most common questions people may ask are in blue with a small explanation of how the product answers that question. In the TH on page 575 it discusses the importance of contrast. This break up of colors helps guide the eye to important concepts by using the concept of contrast. Some of the topics that are in blue even have a picture beside it to help give a better explanation. All of the company contact information is located on the back in the left hand corner. Page 577 in the TH discusses font size and type. I think that the font that was chosen by Merial works well for the purpose of the document and the font is readable. The margins are all the same from front to back of the brochure and all of the bullet points are in alignment. Overall I think this brochure is professional and is geared towards the correct audience and is effective in informing future consumers.

In regards to our group projects, I will keep in mind the idea of contrasting the question and answer to make the initial idea stand out more to the reader. Since we will be gearing towards pet owners I think it is a wonderful idea to have pictures of puppies and kittens playing with the family or just children. This makes a lot of people just feel good when they see these happy pictures. I like the way Merial kept the front cover very simple and used the inside of the brochure to discuss the product. The pictures that Merial placed throughout the brochure also helped break up the wording which I also think is a good idea to keep in mind. My goal for this project is to be sure that my group produces a brochure that is appealing and maintains the reader’s interest.

I think that this is a good brochure used by FRONTLINE Plus. Although it contains a lot of information, it is organized in a way that is easy to read and understand. Whenever something may be difficult to explain with words, a picture is in the nearby proximity to help explain the idea better. I really like the picture about the flea lifecycle. It shows how the normal life of flea progresses, but at the same time shows how the product works to prevent it. At every step of the lifecycle, there is a red crossed through circle representing how FRONTLINE plus knocks out that stage of the flea’s life. This really shows the effectiveness of the product. Using ideas similar to this one would be beneficial for our own projects.

Brochure Comment

I think this is another very good example of an effective brochure. I think it is able to catch the attention of someone very easily by applying to family ethos by showing a dog owner, her pet, and her child enjoying the day outside together. Now that the author has caught the audience’s attention, the pamphlet has section titles with common questions highlighted. This will keep the audience’s attention and keep them interested. I also like the picture and explanation of the flea life cycle. I think it gives a good break from text and gives a lot of information in a small space.

This is a very good example

This is a very good example of what a brochure should look like. The information and visuals are very well balanced throughout the document. Each area of interest is highlighted with a contrasting coloring and uses the right level of brightness with complementary colors. I agree that in order to maintain the reader's interest, it has to be eye catching and appealing. A goal for using the brochure is to enhance a reader's interest of the topic and use images that they could relate to or could picture themselves in. It sounds like you have a really good image of how you will proceed with this project and will contribute many great ideas.
