Reading Response #5

The brochure I found has many elements of graphic design which puts emphasis on one another. Proximity is a big factor in this particular brochure. Not only is there a very distinct blue hue on the front cover, but it is rather large compared to the other components. The plain colors of the background also make it stand out more which also goes for some of the other pages as well. The element of alignment acts as a tool for the reader and by this I mean it leads the eye from one piece of information to the next with ease. That way the reader’s interest is not easily lost and the message you are trying to convey can be understood. The diagrams that were utilized at the end of the brochure put all the information into illustrations that further explained it.

Some of the ideas I might incorporate into my own would be the use of color contrast. It definitely catches the eye because it forces the reader to pay attention in a sense. In addition to that I will also include shapes like squares, triangles, and such because this too plays an important role in bringing the whole brochure together. Manipulating lines so that they fit in with the overall design can make or break an advertisement. Any kind of line is what makes up graphic design. I would not quite do a similar format with the placement of pictures and text because there is too much blank space that lessens the effects it could potentially have. It could also be that the white spaces are not placed effectively which makes it seem like the entire template is unbalanced. Regardless, I will consider using some of the patterns and layouts what I think will be most valuable to the project.

Wow! The brochure that you found has a lot more technical graphics on it then the one I found. Mine was more geared towards everyday people where yours seems to be very professional. I agree that the light color in the background make the graphics stand out a lot more then if the background had a color other then white. There did not seem to be a lot of writing per page which is good because it allows the reader to stay focused without feeling overwhelmed. As a reader I think that color contrast is very important and so is the layout. Both of these are good things to consider when creating your brochure with your group. Good luck!

The brochure you picked had one main element that jumped out at me when I first looked at it. The element is proximity which is talked about in Chapter 25 on page 573. Proximity is defined as the relationship between images and text in the brochure. The way that the specific brochure that you picked uses proximity is great. All of the pieces of the brochure are placed close enough to the other to establish a relationship. I think it’s a good idea that you plan on incorporating color into your brochure. The use of color is a great way to grab the reader’s attention and keep them interested in the brochure. Color is a great element to use but too much color could be distracting from the text.

Brochure analysis

That is a great brochure for the element of contrast. The pictures are dark while the paper is white so there is a great eye catching ability. This is something I think we could use in the design of our project. The idea of using shapes in the brochure also is a great eye catcher. Some things I saw about the alignment were both good and bad. The bullets that were left aligned looked naturally spaced and were short and to the point. The ones that were fully aligned had big spaces between some words. I think it would be a good idea if we avoided fully aligning our paragraphs unless it looks really good with the spacing. Also the fact that there are 3 columns to the brochure even though there are no lines to indicate column sections is a good look that we could consider using. I look forward to seeing your designs for our project.

I think this was a very good brochure to look off for good ideas of how to use contrasting colors for the project. It also does a good job of showing the name; it is the first thing that you notice since it's really big and right in your view when you first open it up. There are also some good pictures of what it is and does and it provides plenty of information describing it. I think if you incorporated some similar contrasting colors it would make for a really colorful and professional brochure. It also has good alignment throughout which is another key thing when making brochures. Overall I think this is a very professional brochure full of good examples of the different things that make up a good brochure.
