Reading through chapter 5 I found myself reflecting on the works I had created in the past and the terms and reasoning behind them to my previous works. What I mostly thought of was my state of mind when I was creating the documents and how I used elements from the book but had no idea of the psychological elements behind them. In less complicated language, I used elements such as repitition and contrast because it made the document more visually appealing but if I was asked to explain WHY it was so I could probably do little more than shrug my shoulders and offer a halfhearted "I dunno". Other concepts, such as allignment and leading I had a limited familiarity with due to formating for school papers, but had not considered their importance for a visual product.
For the brochure, I will combine both my original approach (what LOOKS good) with thinking about why it is an efficient use of space.
The document I chose to analyze can be found at the link below:

This document utilizes large amounts of contrast, balancing the white backround color with a light purple text. The document also has very little leading as it must utilize the small amount of space for large amounts of text.

The color scheme is a really good choice for the information portrayed in it. All three colors play off of each other well and The use of content, designs, and pictures were organized in a unique way and yet it worked out. Having the name of the company in big, bold letters is very important. I have seen brochures where I have to look around to see who the brochure is for and that is not something companies want. The company’s mission statement also caught my eye. I rarely see this on ads but it does help by giving an understanding of what exactly their job entails. I noticed that at the beginning of some headings, the first letter is in a separate font and is larger from the rest of the paragraph. I like the overall look of this brochure and plan to incorporate some ideas from this.

I think it was good to read the book and find out why we think things that look good are visually appealing. The brochure you found makes great use of color and alignment. I think the font and alignment of the words helps out a lot with the organization. They also used the proximity concept with the doctor looking into the little girl's mouth. We obviously realize that it is a family health center and he is checking up on her. I think it is smart to make sure to keep in mind what looks good along with the visual principles. If the brochure looks nice to you, I'm sure many other people will think so as well. Way to pay attention to details when you comment on the small leading the document has!

I agree with the other comments that the color does portray what the brochure is saying. This goes along with the use of contrast, since the white backround combined with the light purple text match up perfectly. One thing I would have to say that I do not like is that the photos are low quality and black and white color, which make the brochure look dull. The alignment is well done since the text does fit well within the page and is well distributed, but in my opinion this brochure contains way too much text and no images to represent them directly. This brochure could look better if the images were better quality and color and if there were images that could represent some of the text in order to omit some. These are things I will definitely keep in mind when I am helping desing the brochure for our upcoming assignment.
