Reading Response – 5
As I read through chapter twenty-five, I find many ideas and subjects that will help me and my group for our final project. These ideas can and will be very helpful because this chapters lays out the entire brochure making process step by step. The chapter begins with some broad ideas, but as I read further, I find that the ideas become more and more specific. This is great because this is how the writing and design process goes for me.
The first topic that I come upon that I feel with be of great use is typography. I feel that this topic is especially important because if the font is wrong, or the font size is too big or too small then it could ruin the effectiveness of the brochure or document that was created. When it comes to deciding a font, I like to stay with something that is conservative and very easy to read. This ensures me that everyone will be able to decipher the text and receive the information that was intended for them.
Besides choosing the correct font and font size, the next most important decision is the color choices. Choosing the correct color is very important because if one chooses a color that is too plain, then the reader could loose interest in the information. On the other hand, if the colors are too bright or they contrast, the brochure could be too tough to read. This is why it is especially important when creating a document that will be read for information or a Power Point presentation, that one choose colors that go well together. This will prevent the reader from not being able to read the document.
As I begin to create my document for the service learning project, I plan to use the information that is being presented in chapter twenty-five as my guide to help me along. I know that if I use this as my guide, then I will be able to eliminate the costly errors either during or after production. By being able to remove errors, I will be able to write with ease and produce and professional quality document.

This brochure is very in-depth and very professional. I liked how they give you plenty of up close pictures and images to show you exactly how the combine works. There is also good color contrast throughout the brochure. Not only in John Deere itself with the contrasting yellow and green but also how the blue font contrasts with the white background and the colored pictures. There is also good alignment and proximity throughout the entire brochure. It is easy to tell what picture goes with what paragraph because they are very close to the picture and that picture is really the only option the writing fits with. I think this is a very informative brochure and may even have too much information for some people but a good one with plenty of good ideas to look over for your project.

I agree that Chapter 25 contains very useful information. I also like how it gets more specific because the details can never hurt when trying to complete a project. I agree that the font will be very important for our brochure. A lot of people make the mistake of choosing a “fancy” font that is too hard to read. At the same time, we will have to use font effectively and in particular the size, to grab the reader’s attention. Color will also be key. Correct use of color can aid in grabbing attention. Poor use can frustrate readers. I think that the document you found will be a great resource for us as we complete our project. It gives us examples on how to effectively use pictures, font, and color to create a professional and easy to read document.

I completely agree with the idea of using the right font-type and font size because having the right visual effect is very important. Sometime reading some text can get very irritating to the eyes and we must avoid using funky fonts and have uniformity.
The idea of using Images as visual text works a lot, I feel when you see a Image it says a lot of things when you see it, hence I think we should the use of Images very effectively to bring about a better layout as well as it will look attractive. The use of Images is effectively used in the brochure you have selected; hence we should do something similar. I think one point which everyone agrees on is the color selection. It is very important to do that. I think that could be very confusion to decide one scheme.

This is an appealing brochure. The first thing I see is exactly what the brochure is about, a combine. I really like the way the brochure is laid out and the way they utilize their pictures. The writing is enough to get the point across but not too much to where the brochure seems wordy or crammed. The brochure looks very professional and seems to have a neat look to it. I agree that font size is important because if you make the font too small no one will be able to read it and too big of font just doesn’t look professional. Good work on finding a nice brochure.

I agree that font choice, size, and color are important things to consider when making our brochures. No matter if you have great text or content written concerning your topic, if your audience can not read it then it does not matter what was written. That is a very important realization to understand. Readability is exceptionally important and font choice, size, and color all add to that aspect. I liked the brochure you choose about the John Deer Tractor. I especially liked how the brochure had pictures and then captions. The brochure was a detail description of the tractor. I do not think that our brochures are going to be this long and contain that much detailed information, but if they were, this would be an great reference/sample format to refer.

I also liked how the reading on chapter 25 listed useful idea and subjects making the brochure in step by step. It will be a great guideline when we start making our brochure both in writing and designing. I agree that using appropriate typography is important because no matter how well the contents are made, if the font size is too big or small also not consistent, the reader would not be able to get the most information and decrease the interest of reading the brochure. I liked your brochure using yellow color for each main points emphasizing and catching the reader’s sight easily. It went along well with the machine’s green color and symbol of John Deere.
