The brochure I found was put out by the US Department of Commerce, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, National Weather Service, and the American Red Cross. It is an informative document about disaster preparedness and includes a special tornado safety section aimed at schools. The document can be found at: http://www.nws.noaa.gov/om/brochures/ttl.pdf.
One element from Chapter 25 that is used in the document is repetition. Every heading is either Red or Blue throughout the entire document to show the differentiation from the instructional text. I think using repetition for the headers of this document was a great decision for the simple fact that it is about safety. Red is the color of danger, so it simply makes sense to head the paragraphs of a disaster planning manual with it. All bullet points are also red within this brochure. Exceptionally important facts are put inside boxes with a yellow background to allow them to stand out. The author does a good job of underlining things that he or she deemed important to the audience.
The text and pictures were all aligned so that each page was filled appropriately, and is appealing to the eyes. The proximity of the pictures to the coinciding words on page 6, for example, allows the reader to understand the information visually. The paragraphs above each picture explain what is going on in detail, but say you are a young person and cannot understand the words; the pictures will help you follow along.
After analyzing this safety brochure, I think the most important part would have to be the layout. It is appealing to the eyes, and uses repetition so that the readers can follow along effectively. I will use repetition in my group’s brochure so that our readers can find information they are looking for quickly. Also, I will suggest to my group that we set the most important information apart with boxes and contrasting colors like this document did.

This brochure is really eye catching and it involves an interesting topic. As you noted repetition was enforced, and I thought it helped the brochure be more easier to read. One thing I liked about the design was the aligning and the bullets. Consistency was also used throughout the brochure, especially in the brochure's format. All this information was presented very well visually, which I think is important considering weather. I also think repetition is important and would like my group to use it in our brochure. Using repetition should work well for your group also. Good luck!
RR week 5
I happened to choose the same brochure as you did for my reading response and I would agree with everything you said. A few other things I noted was the use of text boxes and highlighting throughout the document to help organize the ideas and thoughts of the organization. I also was very impressed with the use of pictures in the document. The ones on the cover contrasted each other very well and the red border made the stand off the page. Throughout the brochure they used pictures well to enhance and help explain the more important facts of the text. It would be a good idea to use some of these ideas when you are making you copy of the brochure for the project.
I agree that the brochure
I agree that the brochure you chose was very eye appealing and informative. The authors did a great job of highlighting the most important points and used two different colors for differentiation between complex and simple facts. To draw attention to the most important facts, large letters, different font color, and highlighting is displayed. This method is very effective helps to identify the major points of interest quickly. The red font and bullets refer to the most dangerous of mother nature's disasters. The reader can gather information effectively from each indicated title. The graphics within this bulletin are very interesting and a powerful reminder of how dangerous disasters can be.

I liked the brochure you chose. As you said, it used the effectiveness of repetition. The red bullet points and subtitles alerted me that it contained very important information. Like you said, red is the color of danger and in this respect the colors used in the brochure were very related to the purpose and content of the brochure. Since blue is the complementary color of red, it would make some parts of the brochure be remarkable. The font size was big enough to make the brochure easily readable. Alignment was very well organized to make it simple and neat. I thought this brochure would be a good example when you begin to make your own brochure.

I believe the use of pictures help the reader to understand the brochure better. I guess it is true what they say, " a picture says a 1000 words."
