URBAN Work Blog Week 5

I accomplished all the goals of the group for Week 5. I designed and created the Gantt Chart and initiated all the group discussion. The day that I received the names of my group members, I immediately sent out an email to introduce myself and get the project started. I provided everyone with my contact information (cell phone, email, and AIM screename) so that I can be contacted at any time. I asked everyone else to provide the same information when they replied, but only received some contact information from one other member. I also suggested some ideas, such as having the group complete each step of the project at least one day prior to the deadline so that everyone has time to review the final version before submitting it. Also, I thought it would be a good idea to have one person in charge of submitting each document. I volunteered for this, because I am always working ahead and am responsible. After this, I began working on the Gantt Chart. I had my first version created by Wednesday evening and a revised version by Thursday evening. I used Excel to make a chart that would show the progress of each task as long as you enter the number of days completed into the chart. Next to each bar, I assigned a group member responsibility for that task. I hope this is an effective way of doing this. It will definitely be useful in staying on task, because all deadlines are nicely presented in this chart.

Basically, I fell that I did all the work for the group this week. I hardly received any feedback from group members, which has made this extremely frustrating for me. I feel that with more support from my group, I could have created a much more specific and detailed Gantt Chart to play to each member’s strengths. I also could have distributed tasks more specifically.

Note

After posting this, I was contacted by Faheem and we were able to make some revisions to the Gantt Chart. We added some more specifics to it and tried to make a better setup to allow for both enough time to create the documents and revise them. This updated version is by far improved and it should do well to keep the group on schedule.
