Chapter 37 was the most helpful guide I’ve read in this class. I have notice that my problems almost always rely in attractive writing. First of all the entire variety principle seems completely new for me, and learning it has been a very positive fact for this project. In this first draft I wasn’t able to apply this information since I read the chapter today but for the second draft I will apply principles such as variety with types of sentences, word order and place of important information.
Variety in types of sentences is very important to create an attractive paragraph. This is something I noticed after reading the examples they give in page 758. Simple and compound sentences alone in a paragraph make it look so simple that could make the reader fall asleep. The other case however, made up with complex and compound-complex, complicates something that could be easier to understand. It is very important to use from those four types to get to a really attractive writing.
Word order and the place of important information is something I always apply in my writing. I use those methods give emphasis to the subject I decide and to reveal the information in the time I decide to. I really like to leave important information to the end of the sentence since I find it gives more emphasis to it.
As long as design, I think it is something I missed during this first draft. I was helping with the pet care brochure and applied this brochure to young kids. The reason why I considered them to be my audience is that normally new pets are given children. The design of the brochure was very colourful and the titles were in round spaces with informal font (sans serif). But there was something about images that wasn’t complete. In order to make the brochure informative while being appealing, I realize I need to add more images that could reference the information we added.
Finally, when talking about conciseness, I can honestly say that a trifold is too small to add so much information about pet care. For this reason we had to summarize the information so much that it goes directly to the main idea. Although conciseness is a good thing this might have been too much. This is something to check for the second draft.

Good Ideas
I agree that Chapter 37 was one of the most important and interesting chapters I've read so far. I have always felt that my writing could be better and I think if I follow the rules and tips they have my writing will improve. I think that using different sentence lengths in my writing will not only help it flow better but it will be better for the reader as well. I think you make a good point about our brochures being small when you have to try to fit in a lot of information. Being concise is a really important thing to do, especially in a document such as a brochure where you have limited space to write. I feel that you have some really good ideas here on what to include in your brochure. Based on your writing I'm guessing you have a pretty good brochure and when you revise it will be even better.

I think you have a lot of insight to the concepts of this project and you know what needs to be done to improve on the work that you have already finished. You have done a good job relating the information discussed in the Thomson Handbook to your own brochure and are trying to take it to the next level now. It sounds like you understand how to write well for your target audience and have created a design layout that coincides with the same ideas. It sounds like you are off to a great start and that your brochures will be even better after the next round of revisions.

It seems so much easier understand the concepts behind a correct design, repetition and conciseness than to come up with a way to implement those concepts. In the practice it was very difficult to create brochure completely attractive in every way. However, the comments the professor made in our brochure were very helpful to improve it so we can send a more efficient second draft. I am sure that everyone found both chapters 24 and 37 as helpful as we did, saw it a guide to the creation of the brochure and they will make all the arrangements to follow the principles.

I did not read the chapters in the TH handbook until after we had submitted our draft of the brochures but now see that they will be useful in our revisions for draft two. I find that writing what you think is completely different then writing something that is appealing and to the point for the reader. I enjoyed reading the chapter on sentence structure and was reminded of the importance of being sure that everything is written correctly in these brochures. I really liked the design that you found for the pet care brochure and think that it is very appealing and eye catching for the readers. I hope others feel the same way. Thanks for all your great help in getting that pet brochure completed.
