Reading Response - 6

Chapter 24 and 37 played a very important role in the creation of our two brochures. As we began creating the brochures, we wanted to create documents that drew our audience in and kept them interested. To draw our audience in we made sure that we achieved the correct proximity. Since the proximity drew our readers in, we made sure that our brochures offered variety to keep our readers interested. We knew that if our brochures did not offer some bit of variety that our readers would become bored and eventually not finish reading our brochure. Some of our uses of variety came by changing our words around from the norm and varying the way that we presented the information. The two ways that we chose to present was in short sentences and bulleted list. We felt that this was a much better way to the information than just paragraphs. Long paragraphs tend to bore readers and then they do not focus on what is being presented.
Besides variety, conciseness also played a big part in the creation of our two brochures. Since we wrote our brochures very concise, we presented as little words as possible to get our message across. Since we chose to write in this way, we had room for extra information and more importantly, we had room for pictures. Our concise sentence will allow our readers to merely glance at our brochure and get the information that they need.
So now that our brochure has been written and our group has had a chance to review them, we believe that we have displayed variety and conciseness. By first achieving the correct proximity and variety we were able to draw in our readers and keep them interested. As a group we feel that since our readers will be interested, they will continue reading and receive the message that we intended.

I think that is great that your group focused on using proximity in your brochure. Proximity is a great way to convey meaning between text and pictures. By using proximity, a message is conveyed to the audience about the relationship between the pictures and text. The combination of the two creates a visual that helps the audience understand the relation and form an emotional appeal on the topic being discussed. Another topic that you discussed is using variety in your brochure. A bulleted list changes things up from just having text. Using variety keeps the audience interested in the material, and helps promote the message by having the audiences’ attention.

I really liked how you brought up proximity. We really did try to coordinate pictures with writing. I also liked your point on variety. I really liked how we used paragraphs and bulleted lists to help switch everything up. I agree that keeping everything short is better; long paragraphs lose the reader’s interest quickly. We can also make sure that we have used a variety of sentence structures when we revise our draft. Our conciseness is definitely a plus. I really like how we have room to add pictures. The pictures also help break the text up and grab people’s attention. I look forward to revising our work even more.

Variety

I agree with your thought on proximity and conciseness. I believe that by achieving proximity, we managed to get our readers engrossed in the brochure. By being concise, we didn’t bore the readers. I like your thoughts on variety too. The two ways that we presented the brochure, short sentences and bulleted form, kept the reader interested. If we used any one of the ways, the reader would have felt bored. Just the combination of both of them gave variety to the brochure and also a different look. It just didn’t look paragraph wise, the bulleted list added attractiveness to the brochure. Overall I think we did a good job, putting together the text as well as the visual aids and made the brochure attractive and interesting to read.
