Reading Response 6

For my group I was responsible for working on the general information brochure for the Humane Society. When working on the brochure I tried to include many of the items that were covered in the reading. The brochure had to be concise to fit all of the information that the Humane Society wanted in the document. This meant choosing words carefully to make them most effective. The Humane Society sent us some of the text that they wanted include but most needed to be fine tuned before inserting them in the brochure. One of the other main focuses of the brochure is that everyone would be able to read and comprehend it. Since many of the people that come to the Humane Society are children the brochure had to be able to be read by all ages.
The design of the brochure turned out to be one of the most difficult parts. After reviewing a few brochures on the web I decided on a general layout and color scheme that would match the web site of the Humane Society. I used analogous colors because I thought it made the document easier to read. After starting work on the layout I found that it needed to be altered several times in order to make the graphics enhance the document and not distract you from it. Also the placement of the graphics to create the most meaning was something I concentrated on. Along with the design came figuring out where to put what text. When working on this I found my self moving many of the sections to finally find which combination flowed the best and made the most sense in the document.
I still don’t think that the brochure is perfect. Some of the sentence structure could be reworked to where it would be better understood by children. I also think that using some complementary colors on important information will make it stand out more from the page. Overall I think we are off to a great start we just need to keep working on it.

I think that making the brochure easy to read for children while remaining informative adds some difficulty to the process. Like you, I feel that we need to revise the text for children as well. It can be done; time just needs to be spent choosing our words carefully. I would agree that the design is indeed the most difficult part. It does not help that the information given to us is slightly vague as to specific requests from the Humane Society. With this in mind, I think you went about doing this in a good way. Just playing around with your information to try and find the optimal spot gets the job done.

I definitely agree with idea of everyone being able to read and comprehend your brochure. This is important since you are focusing on a more general subject such as the Humane Society. Being concise and choosing words carefully were a good start for your idea. The design was difficult for our group too, it was hard to fit all the information on the brochure. I actually thought I was the only one who had difficulty putting the words on the brochure. Our brochure isn't perfect either, I think everyone in the class will have to do a significant amount of revising. Good Luck!

In my opinion your focus on clear cut information suitable for children and making it informative at the same time is absolutely correct. However, according to me color would play an important role in your brochure. Even though correct information in the brochure may be important to you, side by side there should be some provision to make it colorful considering the high percentage of children that read the brochure. A little more time spent on sentence structure to make it more understandable would be an appropriate decision as well! Over all I think you guys have had a good start. Good Luck

I agree in that the design of the brochure was a difficult decision. I think that the design you ended up with was very professional and appealing. You did a great job with this brochure in that you provided all of the necessary information in a very concise and clear manner. I think that the brochure can be used for wide ranged target audience (from kids to adults) with some minor revisions to make the wording a bit more readable for children. I agree in that both of our brochures need some revisions but with the four of us and the professor’s feedback as well we will have these perfected in no time. Thanks for your hard work in creating the brochure!

It is hard to chose the right information to put into a short document such as a brochure especially when you have too much information. I say this because you should not put too much text on the brochure but fill it with images as well. Sometimes you have to put a lot of information in the brochure like in the assignment we are doing right now, and it is hard to omit some information since most of it is important. As you mention in your reading response, you could "fine tune" them, which to my understanding is to shorten the text to save up space, but you still are sending the right information. I think this is going to be one of the hardest part for the next drafts since we have to shorten text and add images to make the brochure more attractive to the audience. But with the feedback and the drafts we have to elaborate, we will definitely get a very good brochure.
