Reading chapter 24 and 37 to me, meant keeping in mind various principles and techniques in order to apply and design an appropriate brochure. In my learning the first principle was to keep in mind the Audience and design the brochure. This is very important as what u do must appeal to the audience, and if it does the project is a success. Hence satisfying the audience is the primary objective. A presentable design and layout for the brochure and then the material, with variety and conciseness was the next thing. The collection and collaboration of information required was also very important for us, as the material needed to be substantial. Since a lot of information was also repetitive we had to ensure the brochure did not have information being given over and over again. We learned that in order to have all the attention of the audience we needed to have short and precise sentences, which had a good flow. Keeping the audience in mind was very important for us as we needed their acceptance and approval for volunteering for our organization and for this we had to make the brochure attractive for them. The designing of our Christmas brochure was very important as it needed to be a good eye-catcher; this is also because the first impression is the last impression. And it is human tendency to peruse something that pleases the eye. Hence for our brochure we used Christmas colors and pictures. I think we really did a good job so far, and reading the 2 chapters helped us in designing a professional brochure.

"Hence satisfying the audience is the primary objective" I agree that is very important when designing the brochures. However, for this project the audience is very diverse. It ranges from a businessman to a mother, to a child. I thought appealing to such a varied audience was a difficult task to accomplish. However, my group did this by maintaining simplicity and keeping the organization strong. Gaining acceptance and approval was important with the audience, but I think more importantly was getting and maintaining their attention long enough to read and learn about this incredible opportunity to make a difference. It was also important to appeal to them the desire to volunteer for such an amazing organization like the CFRC.

I think catching the attention of the audience is a main goal. You also have to reach the expectations of the audience. It is good that you do not have the same information over and over again. This would be very annoying to the reader and they might put the brochure down for getting reading through the important parts. This would not achieve its goals. I like your idea about the first impression of the brochure. If there is not a good first impression of the brochure people will have a bad impression of the CFRC. I like how you guys choose to use Christmas colors for your brochure. That is a good idea! You should also make sure the brochure stands our in the gray scale mode too.

The audience tends to be the most important focus when writing any document especially when writing brochures. In making these brochures I have found that it seems to be more appealing to the reader if the document is not too wordy. It sounds like your group did a good job at reviewing the information provided and being sure that nothing was being repeated. I am unfamiliar with the topic of your brochure but agree that colors are important. The first thing the reader will see is the overall design and if that is not appealing they may never even read the brochure. Good job at realizing this and working towards making your brochures appealing to the target audience.

I also agree with the previous comments as well as with the main text when you sau that satisfying the audience is one of the main goals. You have to get the audience's attention first, they have to see something that is appealing and attractive to them. Once you get the audience's attention, you have to keep them interested by showing them concise information as well as color and images so they do not get bored. I think your group has done a good job on having all of those important facts you mention above in mind (such as pleasing their eye, getting the audiences acceptance and approval, etc) because I think that in the end what really manners is the message you transmit to the audience. I believe that this way is the most effective way to do that.
