General Brochure:

I think your group did a great job on your CCHS general brochure. First, I think really like your color scheme. The colors and shapes that you use make your brochure look professional, yet playful at the same time. Playful is a good attribute to have when you brochure is about adopting a dog or cat. I really like the left and top sides of your 2nd page. The vertical and horizontal boarders with the organizations name and titles look very good. Also, I think your information is placed in a very effective manner. The only thing that I think you may want to think about is under you adoption fees information. It looks like the fonts are two different sizes. It seems that you are trying to compensate for the limited space, making the dogs font smaller. Overall, I think the picture placement and the use of a playful format makes this a very good brochure.

Caring for your Pet Brochure:

I also think you did a good job on your caring for your pet brochure. I think this one is a far more general format, yet still effective. You use good picture choices and placement to reinforce your text. One thing I noticed in this brochure is you are inconsistent with your font size and spacing. On your third page alone, it looks like you use three or four different font sizes, and at least two different line spacing. I would also center your information on your front page (page one right side). Other than that, I think you have good information and a nice simple design.

Aside from so minor changes, I think you have two very good brochures. Good job so far and good luck!

Peer Review on Brochures

I think the Caring For Your Pet brochure is very well done and impressive. I like your choice of colors and particularly how the blue color fades out toward the bottom of the page. This makes the headings stand out, but the text easy to read. The photos selected are very cute and entertaining.

Suggestions for change: Under bathing your pet, I think it would look better to hyphenate a word somewhere else in the text than the very last word. It looks strange to have a partial word standing alone on the last line. Also, it looks like there are 2 different font sizes used under “Potty Training Your Pet.” Did you do this intentionally?

Comments on the General Brochure: My initial impression is excellent. I think the graphics are very good. I like the side bars, the paw prints, the geometric designs and the colors. It all works together to create a brochure full of energy and easy to read. The cover picture is adorable. Who wouldn’t want to adopt a cute pet like that! I like how the organization name and slogan appear on multiple pages.

Suggestions for change: The text under Who We Are, How You Can Help, and Directions feels a little cramped on the left. Maybe consider a slightly wider left margin? Also, under Donations, you might consider a line to the effect that any donation no matter how small will benefit an animal in need.

Overall, I think your group has done an excellent job and your brochures are very effective.

Comment

I think your group did a very great job. I really liked the pictures and colors used on your group’s brochures. I also liked how you capitalized the first letter of each word in the titles. I think it emphasized the content of your brochures more effectively. And the pictures were so cute and lovely that they would make people feel like to adopt and care a pet like in the pictures. The content were aligned well with enough space in between so that the readers could read the article quickly. I liked how you applied the complementary colors, orange and blue, in your Caring for your Pet brochure. Although I think your group’s brochures are very informative and well-organized, here is my little suggestion.

Caring for your Pet brochure: As my group members have mentioned already, I found some parts of the article with inconsistent font size.

General brochure: I liked how you inserted the paw prints. The squares, triangles, and circles around each title looked very fun and interesting. Under the “Adoption fees” category, however, I would suggest you indent each bullet point under the “Cats” side a little bit to the right, so that both “Cats” and “Dogs” sides can seem more balanced.

Good luck!

Peer Review

My first impression of your group’s brochure was that the design was very appealing and eye-catching. I liked how you guys used the blue that fades to white as the background color. We also used that type of background in our brochure, just green instead of blue. I think you did a good job of choosing colors that complemented each other. The light blue, orange, and yellow created a happy and cheerful mood, which fit perfectly with the purpose of your brochure. I also thought the pictures fit very well with the text. They helped illustrate what you were saying. Some, like the picture of the dog with the toilet paper, helped add a little humor to the brochure, as well. So, as far as the design of the brochure goes, I think you are doing a great job.

The only part I felt could use a little work was the text. Almost all of the text was in paragraph form. The only problem with that form is that it doesn’t hold the reader’s attention very well. If the reader is just glancing through the brochure, chances are they won’t read each article to the end. If possible, I would suggest trying to use lists or bullet points to make the information easier to follow and easier on the eyes. Also, some of the sections had words that seemed to be a little repetitive, such as in the potty-training section. The words “potty-training” were used quite a few times and didn’t seem necessary in every place. Also, I noticed a few grammatical errors, such as run-on sentences and missing commas. Other than a few things in the text, I thought the overall design and layout was on the right track. Good job!

Humane Society Comments

Group #1: Your informational packet is GREAT! The colors, boldness and use of pictures is wonderful. The picture on the front just draws you in and makes someone say, "Aww, how can I help?" On the inside under "WHO WE ARE", we need to change the part about wildlife to say, "The healthy wildlife we bring in to the shelter are released into more suitable locations." Under MISSION STATEMENT, the second bullet point, check about the commas and spacing. Under the 3rd bullet point, that should say, "To operate an adoption center for healthy animals." Moving down to ADOPTION FEES, nothing is mentioned about the spay/neuter reimbursement. Under cats maybe you could put the fee then in parentheses put $40.00 applied to spay/neuter. For the dogs, $60.00 applied to spay/neuter. We'd also like to change the way the vaccines are mentioned. Under the 2nd bullet under CATS, we would like that to say Feline vaccination (Eclipse 4). Then add another bullet point under CATS to
say worming (Pyrantel). Under DOGS and the 2nd bullet point, change that to canine vaccination (DA2PPvL). Under DOGS 3rd bullet point, Bordatella vaccination (Intra-Trac 3). The next bullet point under worning add (Pyrantel). Under HOW YOU CAN HELP, in the DONATE YOUR TIME section, lets add a bullet with Bathe or groom an animal. Another bullet with Work a fund raising event. Under DONAT SUPPLIES, lets remove dog & cat toys and change that to dish soap. Under DONATE FUNDS, the board would like $150 Platinum Paws Level. $100 Top Dog Level and $50 Friendly Feline Level. They wanted to add another bullet under that saying $0-$49 Caring Paws. Moving to the CONTACT INFO section, we have Sunday hours from 1-3 and they are not listed. DIRECTIONS, under 2nd bullet should say, Follow SR 28 to Main St. At Main St., turn left. Below the directins it says to visit us online at:, could we change that to View our animals online at:. Finally, there is no mention of
spay/neuter. Somewhere, it has to say, "Please have your pet spayed or neutered." Maybe that could go under the HOW YOU CAN HELP section, the very first thing in BOLD type. One last little thing, one of the board members thought a very small picture right near the DONATE FUNDS would be cute. Something as brilliant as the picture on the front that again makes people melt and want to donate. I know that sounds like a lot but really, Good job.

NOTE: Because this is so long and time consumming, please excuse my typing and grammar. I'm going to try to shorten my replies.

Group #1 Care:
1st of all, we all liked the gold lettering with the font on the inside of the brochure. Starting under NOW THAT YOUR DOG IS HOME, it seems like the lettering at the bottom is out of wack and some spacing is off. On the inside under BRINGING YOUR NEW PET INTO THE HOME, down at the bottom is a typo. 2nd to the last sentence. Moving to FLEA & HEARTWOM, typo. Under SPAYING & NEUTERING, this one about made the board freak out! It is NOT an option to spay/neuter your pet. It is because of the lack of spay/neuter that Humane Societies and Animal Shelters exist. Millions of animals are euthanized each year because of the number of unwanted cats and dogs. Under POTTY-TRAINING A NEW PET, we promote crate training and positive reinforcement. Also, if using a gated area for cats, most will just jump over that. They should confine the animal to a small room and should have one more litterbox than cat. Finally, under FEEDING TIME, please check the last sentence. Is there a
comma after humans? The pictures were great and totally fit each category. Nicely done.
