After reviewing the 5 Minute Brochure Design Trash Test, I thought it was very helpful in revising our group's brochure. Our brochure does appeal to emotions. We have a great color scheme and uniformity that really elaborates on the holiday season. However after reading about the professionalism of brochures, we may be able to make ours a little better. The article said that clip art images and sketched images make them look less professional. Normally I would agree, but I think ours fits the bill in this situation. Our pictures are good, but we have used part of a clip art design for our cover. I think it fits an looks great for what we are trying to accomplish, but we will consult as a group on what to do. I think we finally achieved readability. At first, part of our brochure was too wordy, but after some revising we made it look much more professional and easier to read. I think we do have a single message and that is that we need help to run this Christmas event efficiently. We do have a lot of information about the event, but there is a definite correlation. Lastly I believe our brochure does have a "call of action." We need help for this event. Help in any way that you can. That is our direct message. We do have options of what can be done, but we are directing the reader to be proactive in some way. Even if they are unable to attend the event there are plenty other ways to help, like with donations, food, etc. I think our brochure matches up quit well against this checklist of a great document.

Erik, I agree with everything you have said so far about the brochure. About the cover page picture, I think it looks great since it does not make the brochure look less professional. This picture sets a better Christmas mood for the brochure since it is when CFRC's event is happening. In my opinion, we probably could add just one more image or picture to some panels (like the volunteer opportunities) to make it seem less wordy. I also think that our brochure has improved after cutting the excess amounts of text we had. Overall, I also think that we did well against this checklist and are on the way to complete a very well done brochure.
I agree that the 5 Minute
I agree that the 5 Minute Brochure Design Test was very helping in revising our group's brochure and was very informative. I feel that our brochure has met all the requirements listed in the design test and has become a great brochure. With your help in revising my original design, it has become very professional looking and appealing. In regards to the statement of not putting clipart on front covers, I think in our case it really enhances the christmas spirit and event. If we had used the CFRC christmas logo, I don't think it would have looked as great.

I definitely agree that this trash test was a great way to self-evalute our brochures before we have to turn in our final draft. For me personally, it helped me criticize my own work. I always seem to have a hard time figuring out what I should change if I do not get an outside opinion. I also agree with you that we have a clear message that calls the reader to action. We specifically tell the reader that it is a good idea to volunteer, and then back up that statement with heartfelt pictures and words of good faith. I think we did a pretty good job making the words in the brochure more concise, but after reading the comments from our professor, I now see that we must make more changes so that the wording has a better over all flow. Great Job!
