Reading Response Week 7

5:00 Appeal to Emotions:+
The cover of the general brochure appeals to the emotions mainly with the dog on it. He looks like he needs a home and that is what the humane society is about. Also, the phrase "Because We Care" shows the emotion of love to the animals they work with.

4:00 Be Professional:+
The design was ok for this brochure. It appeals to the younger crowd and that is who is important for the humane society to get the kids to have the want to adopt a pet. If it needed to be dressed up more, it could but I think its fine as is.

3:40 Be Personal:+
This is personal to describe the humane society well as well as inform the reader about what they can get from them. It's hard to show how this place affects the reader besides a place to adopt a pet.

3:00 Achieve Readability:+
We have many bullet points and boxes that are described in the good readability. Mostly every section includes some bullet points and the overall design of the brochure consists of boxes and shapes that organize the brochure to be easily read.

2:30 Speak the Language:+
Its pretty easy to exclude technical info for this brochure as the only technical info included was about vaccinations. Other than that it was all about who the humane society is and what their goals for the animals are.

2:00 Lead with Benefits:-
There were no direct benefits to this brochure. It didnt seem to fit that they should benefit from the humane society besides knowing where they could donate their time or money or adopt a pet.

1:20 Have a Single Message:+
The message is pretty clear that the humane society is here to save pets and have them ready for adoption to the public. They really care for pets and hope that the rest of the public loves the pets too.

0:50 Focus on a Product or Service:+
The service is a place to adopt pets for a good price. It shows that the humane society is there for you to adopt a healthy pet.

0:20 Make an Action Call: +
It was easy to have a call to action that the Clinton County Humane Society is there for the public to adopt a dog or cat. We provide directions and phone numbers for the reader to contact the humane society.

0:00 Add Your Score. 8+ to 1-. This appears to be a good brochure based on the pluses and minuses set forth by this article. We did a good job designing it and writing about the humane society.

I agree with pretty much all of your scores. The one I didn't think of was the "focus on product or service." You mentioned that the service for your brochure was a place to adopt pets for a good price. I didn't think about this in that way at all. I saw product or service and just automatically thought of a business or a product that is needed to be sold. I like how you thought of it in a different way and I think it was a good point. I agree with your one minus about "lead with benefits" because there isn't much of a benefit about going to the human society other than knowing where to find a pet which you said. I like your points and I think the brochure is real good.

I also agree with your scores. The focus on the product part was one part I overlooked, but now that you point it out, I understand where you are coming from. I guess I don't always think of pets as a product so it was hard to relate to this area. I think your brochure is very effective and very professional. I like your different graphics and the colors used. I like how you thought outside of the box when taking the 5 minute test, you brought up a lot of points that I didn't even think about. I agree with all your points, and I am excited to revise our brochures to perfection for the next week.

I see we had the same thoughts and opinions about each section of the criteria. Although I had a plus for the leads of benefits section, I can see why you had a minus for it. I was a little hesitant about this because people do benefit from the services the shelter offers but in a different manner. Depending on how people perceive the humane society to be, I think it can go both ways. Other than that we pretty much had the same ideas about everything else. You stated some interesting points that I otherwise would not have thought about.
