Reading Response - 7

Now that our brochures have been edited and re-worked, I believe that we are on the right track and will produce a great brochure. To ensure this, here are the results of the trash test.
Appeal to Emotions: +
Both our general information and caring brochures appeal to bettering the lives of adopted and abused pets. We appeal to one’s emotions through short informational readings about how to care for one’s pet and through how one can help out sheltered and abused pets through philanthropic efforts.
Be Professional: +
Both of our brochures are very professional. We used a basic but eye appealing design. Our colors were compliments of each other and our real pictures really brought our ideas full circle.
Be Personal: +
Our brochures touch each reader on a personal level. We give readers numerous ways to volunteer and make donations to the humane society. Also in the caring brochure, we allow the reader to connect with the brochure through our real life pictures.
Achieve Readability: +
The brochures are very easy to read. We chose to use simple words and simple sentences. Also we decided to use some sentences and some bulleted lists. This gives the reader a chance to skim the information and still get the full meaning.
Speak the Language: +
The language of our brochure is very simple. In both brochures we talk to the reader and explain tough terms if necessary. Also in the caring brochure, we explain how to do but is being explain if it is not self explanatory.
Lead with Benefits: +
This was not our strong suite, but we still did accomplish this. We did try to let everyone see the benefits of what a little bit of volunteer work could do. We tried to appeal to the one who would give money, the foster parent and the local volunteer.
Have a Single Message: +
Between the two brochures, we deliver just one message. Simply put, the message is about doing the right thing when it comes to caring for your pet or the pets who desperately need a caring and loving home.
Focus on a Product or Service: +
The service that we focus on, is helping the humane society. The general information brochure is a brochure about the humane society and how anyone can help them. We give many ways that individuals can help. We decided that by offering numerous ways to help, then we would get a far greater number of people to help the humane society.
Make an Action Call: +
The general information brochure is a call to action to anyone who wishes to help out the humane society. We provide many avenues of volunteering and donating. This will ensure that we can touch the hearts of many individuals and hope that they have it in their heart to come out and support a cause that is in desperate need of any and all help that it receives.
All in all, our brochures meet and possibly exceed the given criteria. Through further revisions, we believe that we will produce a top quality brochure.

Overall, I think our group did a great job with the brochure. I feel that we could still explain a few terms here and there in the caring for your pet brochure to make it easier for the readers. Though we touched upon the benefits in the general information brochure, may be we could add in a few lines and make is more clear rather than leaving it subtle. In terms of professionalism and readability, the brochure was perfect. The messages in the brochure were also clear. Hence with a few changes I feel our final work will look really good.

I agree that we have done a good job so far on our brochures. They are very professional in design and color scheme. They coordinate well and are very easy to read. I like how we have used actual pictures and bulleted lists to help break up the text. I agree with your point on us improving our leading with benefits aspect. I think we have subtly written the benefits of actions like vaccination and heartworm prevention. By changing the wording, we can become more direct. Our brochures do a great job sending a single message to the reader and calling to action. I agree that with a little fine-tuning our brochures will be great.
