I believe our general brochure, the one I helped write, does appeal to the emotions of our audience. I think that the key to that is in the pictures that we provide that make people really feel for the animals and want to help them. The pictures we used are not clip art or other cheap graphics. They are quality pictures that we copied from the Humane Society website. We also included a short saying on the back of the brochure with an image that appeals directly to people’s emotions.
After quickly scanning the brochure I think we did a good job accomplishing readability. We broke up the brochure using bold and changing the size of the font in the titles. Other sections we also used bullets to help improve the readability and make the brochure flow better. The text portion of the document was written with all audiences in mind. This brochure is meant for people of all ages and therefore we made the text so that any audience would be able to understand it. Some of the information appealed to different groups but in general it is meant for everyone.
One thing I think could be done better is to make the text grab the reader and bring them in. We concentrated on the emotional aspect with the graphics but we need to start off appealing to their emotions in the text as well. We started of explaining the benefits of adopting a sheltered pet but we skipped out adopting a pet in general. This is something we will need to work on for the next draft. The final part of the five minute test is to make a call to action. I think we did a great job of that. The final page on the inside is a direct call to action. It lists all the things they can donate or if they would like it lists an address that checks can be made out to. Overall I think our brochure did good, but there are a few things we will need to fix before the final copy.

In the emotional part of the test I scored the general brochure with (-) because I thought that there were many feelings to take advantage of when talking about animals. However, you just made me realize something I didn’t notice before and that is images. Photographs can say more than many words, and having them in our brochure does inspire feelings. I am sure we can still add something written that could get people to feel good things about animals, but images do a very good job at it. The only thing I disagree with you is that I think there are some things that could be improved in order to get a (+) in readability for the pet care brochure. Anyways, I do think we are in the right track and our final draft will get through this test.

I seemed to have scored things a bit differently then you and tended to be a little pickier with the pet care brochure. I think this is mainly becasue it is the one i worked on the most and tend to be rough on myself. I think that the layouts of both were very nice and appealing to the reader. I agree in that the pictures used were high quality pictures that when duplicated won't stretch or look bad. I really did lile the humane society brochure in that i thought it was very profesional and effective for the cause. It seems like we have gotten off to a great start and have a week to get all revisions finalized so our brochures are perfect! Keep up the good work!
