I’m not sure how many others are reading the online book but it is terribly designed. Ironic that the first chapter we read in the book is about design and it is poorly designed.

I felt that Chapter 19’s major emphasis was on making sure that when you write a technical description, that you not only make sure that it is relevant to the user but also complete. It was very similar to the first chapters we read that dealt the targeting your audience and understating the context of the document. When writing a technical description the author really stressed planning.

Cover letters are for suckers...well maybe not.

Before if an ad asked for a cover letter I wouldn’t have applied. I thought a cover letter was just a useless piece of paper required by companies. Besides who a why write one when no one was going to read it. However after reading these articles, for the first time I see the cover letter as a useful enhancement instead of something useless required by a job.

“Skeptical Resume Reader Tells How He Really Thinks”, by Douglas Richardson reinforces what I have been told since I started writing resumes. With a lot of resumes to read, recruiters do not have the time to carefully read and look over each individual resume. Therefore not only do you need to made sure that everything has, as Richardson states, “a clear-cut sense of direction” but that you do simple things like spell everything correctly.

I chose this internship for a few reasons. One of the main reasons was the reason that most people get an internship: experience in their field before they graduate. Also by possibly working for this company now I would better my chances in having a job after a graduate. I was also interested in the location of the company. Having never been to Texas I am also interested in finding out what it is like. Besides working for an airline company has to involve some sort of travel related perks.
