English 421Y: Technical Writing Online

Research is an important tool to use when writing any document. It is needed for accurate results, procedures, facts, and other important items that will soon flow through our fingertips when we are writing our papers.

Since the beginning of the project I have done a few things. First I have created a Google group for my teammates. I made sure everyone was invited and had equal rights on the site. This means that they can post new topics or send out emails to the whole group. We are equals in the team after all. I set up page placeholders so that we can all start working on the various documents due that week. I felt that by doing this it would encourage us to start sooner rather than later.

White papers are like marketing advertisements for the business class.

I have updated both sets of instructions by adding new headers and graphics. I also fixed up some of the vocabulary in the instruction set to explain some technical jargon.

These instructions are for installing CentOS. The expert guide has added features like how to use samba and create backups.

For my instructions please read through the document and perform the steps on installing CentOS if you can. I know downloading 3.5 GB of data all at once can be troublesome. You will also have to download VMware and install that so you do not have to get rid of your current operating system. There are instructions on how to do that as well. Please identify any areas where you may get confused.

Editing a paper I wrote is one of my least favorite things to do after I have just written it. Part of me just does not like reading what I wrote even though I know I did a good job at it. I guess it could be compared to actors who do not like to watch the movies they are in. Something about seeing yourself on screen as someone else just does not sit right with them.

In Chapter 24 – Using Visuals to Inform and Persuade, the chapter talked about how pictures can help our writing documents.

I want to create a user manual that will teach a user how to install CentOS on their current computer. It is a free Linux operating system. I have installed this operating system a few times during my computer career and it would help me write the document to a novice user who never has done installed their own OS (operating system) before.
