Bergey BWC Excel wind turbine.

The second website I will be conducting research from is www.bergey.com. The Bergey BWC Excel has won the award of America’s best selling residential home wind power system. This system has one of the bigger price tags for the home wind turbine market but has some of the biggest output numbers I’ve seen so far. It is also one of the largest wind turbines in terms of sheer size. Some of these models are anywhere from 60 to 120 feet high and the blade diameter is some 22 feet which makes it a colossal wind turbine. The size of this beast is what helps it catch the wind and create optimal power ratings. This turbine also connects in tandem with you power supply through the utility company or can be set up to run in rural areas without any utility companies at all.

The website has a detail spec sheet of the BWC Excel 10kW class wind turbine. The Excel-S, which is to be connected to your household power supply directly, has a monthly output of 330kW per month with wind speeds of just 8 mph. This same set up can produce up to 1,370 kW per month @ 14 mph which is more than the 936kW average monthly household consumption. This means that if you live in a windy location this set up can not only power your house completely but make your meter spin backwards and the utility company you are hooked up to will have to “buy” back the power that you are saving. I think that this website will be suitable as well for the research aspect of the whitepaper.
