Week 14 Group Activity Report

After having finally nailed down a good solid project proposal, we decided to divide up the research by topics early in the week. We were already a little behind due the proposal changing, and wanted to have as much time as possible to get our research done. The topics consisted of horizontal vs. standing column, closed and open loop designs, and a single loop direct exchange system. Doing this allowed us to be sure we cover all our bases when it comes to different information, along with helping to avoid everyone bringing the same information to the table. For each topic, we researched driving factors such as cost, performance, land requirements, installation process, and many others. Each of us found three sources that best hit on the main points needed and wrote research blogs on these.

In addition to the research, we also spent time coming up with a preliminary design for our white paper. After analyzing each group member’s thumbnail design, comments were left of each describing the strong and weak points of each design. Some of the comments were even directed to questions and criticisms left on other thumbnails. This is the first step to picking a final design. From these comments, a lot can be drawn. Most of us are in favor of two column design, make effective use of white paper, along with giving the paper a nice feel. There is still some disagreement about making the headers stand out, while keeping them from distracting from the rest of the paper; but it is nothing that further discussion can’t iron out.

We also did a great job of keeping the group on schedule and being sure everyone completed their assignments on time. Emails were sent out during the week reminding the group of the research blogs and thumbnails, along with the group and individual activity reports. Hopefully we can carry this diligence into the coming weeks for the rough and final drafts of our paper.
