This article discusses America’s dependence on oil, particularly foreign oil. The article focuses on how foreign relations are altered negatively by foreign oil importation, and how the overall health of the American economy is hindered by this dependence. The article discusses some actions the government can take to reduce or eliminate the negative effects of importing oil. These suggestions are subjective, and cannot be deemed as facts. However, the author provides ample rationale for his arguments, and includes numerous charts and much numerical data, which will be included in the white paper.

The article comes from The Heritage Foundation, a political think tank who conducts research and analysis for government use. It is authored by a Ph. D. in foreign policy studies. Despite being related to politics, where biases are abundant, the article is presented objectively, with verifiable data to support and supplement any claims.

The section this research is for is unique in our white paper, as it is not a “solution” for the reader to choose amongst. A discussion of America’s oil-dependence will serve as a lead-in to the solutions we will discuss in the main body of our paper. It will serve an outline of the severity of the problem, and how taking some type of action is imperative.
