For this research blog, I will focus on the websites that will give statistical data and factual reports about nuclear power in the United States. Such websites include the Department of Energy website, http://www.energy.gov/energysources/nuclear.htm, and the website of the Nuclear Energy Advisory Committee, http://www.ne.doe.gov/.

From these sources, I will be focusing on information that will inform the general public audience about the different types of nuclear reactors, the energy statistics in the United States for the last 10 years, and nuclear regulations that are in place for safety.

The NEAC is a committee established in the late 1990’s to give independent advice to the office of Nuclear Energy on all aspects of the Department of Energy’s nuclear energy program. This source is important because it establishes credibility that the Department of Energy is being advised and somewhat regulated by an independent committee. The website states that this committee reviews the program periodically and advises on long range plans and other priorities. This will be incorporated in to the White Paper when discussing the safety and regulations of nuclear power and will probably be contained in the body of the document.
Also contained in these websites are the reports of the subcommittees including policies and long range plans. Again, these are important to our white paper in discussing the safety of nuclear power.
