Source: An article titled “A Survey of Standing Column Well, Installations in North America” written by American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning
Engineers, Inc.
After my first initial research that allowed me to become more familiar with exactly what geothermal heat is, I found this article which was more specific to my part of the research project: Standard Column Well geothermal heat. This document is written just about column wells and how to install them, has well has their pros and cons. It includes a step by step set of instructions on how to create a standard column well. It includes a helpful data table that gives the measurements of how deep a well needs to be in order to produce a certain amount of energy. This article includes an excellent diagram image of a ground well, which I think would be nice to include in the white paper next to the area that describes standard ground wells. This article is also helpful because it gives a map of where in North America a standard column well works the most efficiently. I will include in the white paper that one negative about standard column wells is that they are not efficient in that many areas of North America. Ground column wells are the most productive in areas where there is a large supply of ground water. This is a nice source because I feel that it is very unbiased toward geothermal heat, it just states the facts and delivers the statistics.
