English 421Y: Technical Writing Online

For my first research blog I decided to start by looking at the manufacturers website for the Netgear WGR 614 wireless router. The address of the manufacturers website is netgear WGR 614. To me this seemed like the logical place to start doing my research for the router.

The page has a basic overview of the wireless router outlining many of the important aspects of the product as well as more detailed and thorough technical specifications page. The technical specifications page is the most important page as it provides all the details about the router, such as what the minimum specifications needed to run it, the number of ports it has as well as all the wireless and security standards that the router supports. It also lists some environmental concerns as well such as the routers maximum and minimum operating temperatures, the amount of power necessary to run the router as well as its overall dimensions.

Since the manufacturer has provided such a thorough detailing of the product this page will be the backbone of most of my research, however there are some other topics I need to look into that are not covered in the manufacturers website. Some of examples of these things is the manufacturer's site it lists the maximum possible speed and through put for the router, I plan on looking at actual consumer reviews and test to see how well the router lives up to its optimum speeds and overall if it is as easy to use as the manufacturer suggests.

The technical specifications of the router provided by the manufacturer do a great job of showing the details of the router and how well it would work under ideal conditions. Now in order to go into more detail in my research and to be able to provide the positives and negatives of using this product, I just need to find out how close to these ideals it operates in the real world.
