English 421Y: Technical Writing Online

For this research blog, I am choosing a journal article that is published by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. The title of the article is Integrating Energy Options. I found this article in the Indiana University Library journal database of academic journals.

The main reason I chose this article is because of its credibility. It is a direct academic journal that in order to be published had to go through several peer reviews by a certain number of scholars in the field. Another reason I chose this journal publication is because of how recent it is. It was written within the past 5 years in which nuclear energy has been largely focused on.

In summary, the article talks about the emergence of nuclear energy and the debate over safety. It discusses the accidents in the United States at the Three Mile Island nuclear power plant and abroad at Chernobyl in what is now the Ukraine.

This information is important to our white paper because we need to focus on how those accidents have led to the regulations that we see today. The article also lists some references that we will use in our research regarding the price tag of nuclear power plants and how the fuel has no emissions that coal would have.

We plan on incorporating the information contained in this article in the body of our white paper where we discuss the possible drawbacks of the use of nuclear power. This is to help our white paper remain as unbiased as possible.
