English 421Y: Technical Writing Online

This week I was focusing my attention on thumbnails and research. I created my thumbnail with the idea that I wanted some color to the top and bottom of my white paper. I realized after looking at my group member’s thumbnails that a two column idea will look better for our white paper. I think we will stick with the idea of using a 3D graph like the one I used in my white paper. I also included in my thumbnail what a sample cover page may look like if we went with my layout.

I focused my research this week on finding examples of schools who had switched to using open source solutions. I wanted to find how this had affected their school and the amount of money saved. I also tried to find information on what types of challenges a school looking to make a switch may face. I feel that by knowing what types of questions may be raised and addressing them in our paper we will stand a better chance at creating a more effective paper. One of the sources that I found focused on Indiana schools that had decided to go with open source solutions. I felt that this was a good source as this brings the idea down to more of a local level and will allow the readers to see how schools in the area are doing this.
