English 421Y: Technical Writing Online

This week was spent researching and compiling the rough draft for the white paper. We started off the week with a meeting on AIM to discuss how we wanted to proceed for writing. The group decided to have a brief introduction, explanation, costs and benefits, drawbacks, and environmental consequences for each type of energy.

Adam decided that smart grid technology didn’t really fit with the concept of nuclear, hydro, and solar energy and would probably make us go over our limit for the paper.

The formatting was the biggest issue for us this week as we had to decide the layout that we wanted for the final document. We decided on a column layout and the design ended up looking very clean and professional. This impression is important because of who we are presenting it to.

We are now focusing on making the paper look and sound even more professional. Our citations are going to be our next hurdle and we think we are going to have simple numbers in the paper referring to the page containing numbered references at the end.

All in all everyone is on board and excited for the final paper to be completed. We aren’t sure if the number of words that we have is appropriate or if we will get counted down for having too much so we will spend this next week trying to consolidate what we can while still keeping the important information. The next week will involve revisions and adding to places where the paper is lacking.
