English 421Y: Technical Writing Online

This week was quite productive for me. Mainly I worked on organizing my research and producing my part of the white paper for the rough draft. I analyzed each of my sources and picked out the most credible ones. Then I went through and decided which would be best for the scope of what I would be discussing in the paper. After that I pretty much had all of my sources narrowed down and had decided what information I would be using from each.

The group had decided to split the paper up into different subjects related to our topic. Each member was expected to write about 400-500 words on their subject. I ended up going a little over, but I don’t think it really hurt to have too much information initially. I worked on writing about some of the hidden fees of Open Source. I mainly focused on the support fees that are common with an open source system. Once my researched was all organized it was quite easy to write as I had already pretty much picked out all the relevant quotes and data that I would be using. This week I’ll basically just be revising the white paper and making changes where necessary along with the group.
