English 421Y: Technical Writing Online

Overall, the first week in Group 8 went well. The group consists of me (Dean Basso), Adam Persohn, Adam Waters, Lindsay Petrovi, and Michael Sheridan. Some things that we accomplished in week one were picking our topic, organizing our group, establishing a Google documents page, and setting group meetings. The topic was chosen to be oil dependence and renewable energy solutions. We were very skeptical on picking this subject because of the popularity of “green” topics, but we went with it anyways. We found the topic to be very interesting and very informative. We also thought that it would make a great white paper document. This topic can either be considered as a government white paper or used for a general public white paper.

With the introduction of the project, we realized that our inbox’s were becoming cluttered and our emails were becoming hard to follow. We decided that Google Documents was actually a great idea for our team to use. We also realized that we might have to meet in person to coordinate the team and organize the project. After linking everyone to the Google Document site, it was actually much easier than we thought. It turned out to be a great tool when editing the proposal.

In organizing our group, we decided to split the large portions of the project up and give everyone a portion. In week one, Lindsay Petrovi created the majority of the proposal (the first portion) with the rest of us acting as editors. A meeting was set for Monday of week 13 of the project to delegate the rest of the portions of the project. The second portion of the project (Gantt chart) is to be completed as a group to maintain good time management. The meeting is to be held in person on Purdue campus.
