English 421Y: Technical Writing Online

On Sunday last week, I participated in our group chat during which we created our Gantt chart and set out a plan for how to divide our solutions. I volunteered to cover the introduction/problem for our White Paper.

Monday started with the group needing to renegotiate our proposal a bit. I participated in these e-mail conversations and e-mailed our re-proposed problems and solutions to our instructor.

I spent the remainder of the week researching my portion of the paper, the intro/problem. This week, I decided to focus mainly on the topic of my first research blog, which was to identify the different specifications that routers are typically compared on for home users.

I found a few sources that were particularly helpful, including some on Consumer Reports and other web articles. I identified the following specifications for us to focus on in our comparison of the routers:
• cost/price
• standards/speed
• warranty
• size, style and weight
• firewall features
• protocols and security supported
• indoor and outdoor range
• additional features

I also created a Google Docs spreadsheet for us to fill the information in on each router as we go, and shared it with the rest of my group.
