English 421Y: Technical Writing Online

This week Group 3 met and divvied up the work for the project. My main task this week was to create the Gantt chart. In previous classes I have used Microsoft Project to create Gantt charts. However after seeing the video of creating one using Excel, I don’t think I will ever go back to using MS Project. I’m sure that it has it’s uses but when one only needs to create a simplistic Gantt chart, Excel is the way to go.

After much discussing with Nathaniel we will be altering our topic to focus on the different types of geothermal heat. This will also help us to narrow down the primary audience. Due to this decision, instead of researching a generic type of alternative energy I will be able to focus my research on a subset of a specific energy source. I will be researching the various aspects of a vertical loop geothermal system. I will be looking into the cost, efficiency, and the pros and cons of this type of installation.

Narrowing down the scope of the research will hopefully enable me to find more specific elements to compare and contrast with the other types of geothermal energy. When finished our paper will be able to provide facts on the different geothermal systems and allow the primary audience decide which is best for them.
