This document summarizes the information that will be used from the website http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=565. This is the manufacturer’s website for the product that I am researching for this white paper. The model I am researching for comparison is the D-link DIR-615. The main use of this website is for the specifications of the router’s performance. I also used http://reviews.cnet.com/routers/d-link-wireless-n/4507-3319_7-32435592.h..., a third party reviewer of tech devices, to confirm the information that the manufacturer gave. All of the information on the manufacturer’s website aligned with the info given on this third party site.
Some of the important information about the router’s capability that will be used in our comparison is as follows. It uses data protocol of IEEE 802.3/3u and IEEE 802.11b/g. The router has a one year limited warranty. It is 4.6 inches wide, 7.6 inches deep, and 1.2 inches tall. The device weighs 0.7 pounds (or 11.2 ounces). It has two detachable external antennas for easy storage. It comes with 4 Ethernet out ports. It has the firewall features of NAT, SPI, and VPN pass-through/multi-sessions PPTP/L2TP/IPSec. Wi-Fi Protected Access is available in WPA and WPA2.
Another reason that I am using this site for research is photos and physical reference. There are a number of good reference pictures of the product as well as a three dimensional, interactive picture that you can view 360 degrees around the router. It also includes the manufacturer’s demo on the product with a comparison chart of different wireless signals. The chart given is not in depth but it gives a good idea of the wireless N capability.
