Reading Response Week 3

The JetBlue crisis is an example of major company with communications problems that were mostly internal. As the ice storm blasted the northeast the JetBlue corporate officers were very slow to act in the situation. JetBlue also wasn’t up front if paying customers, which I consider unacceptable from anyone especially a corporation. I could definitely understand the customers’ frustrations in the way the situation was handled. Mr. Neeleman was extremely cautious in the way he cleaned this mess up, but it was too late.

JetBlue Crisis

It was obvious that JetBlue was not prepared for the ice storms and the cancellations that were brought to the company. As for the CEO and its board communication seemed to be the main problem. According to the article, JetBlue was known for great customer service and cheaper flights. One thing that impressed me was that the CEO admitted he was in the wrong in the way he handled the crisis. He stated that they would make this situation better with the customers and that they also wanted to avoid problems like this in the future.

Reading Response Week 2

The first reading I wanted to discuss is about the boss sending the angry email that upset many people. The Article was “Boss’s Angry Email Sends Shares plunging” written by Mr. Patterson the chief executive officer of Cerner. I really think this email will have a strong effect on Mr. Patterson’s career and future. His behavior is not what I expected from a CEO. His choices of words as well as his tone were poor throughout the email. I think he let his emotions and personal feels take over which proved inappropriate.

Job Ad Analysis

I am hoping to enter the workforce in February 2008. I am only going to have my bachelor’s degree in Health Science, which may be too general as a degree. I say this because most Health Science majors go to graduate school or medical school. I plan to go to graduate if the job search does not go well. As I searched through different job ads, I tried to look for jobs that only required a degree. I looked for these in areas that I may be interested in such as pharmaceuticals and occupational health.
