English 421Y: Technical Writing Online

The Thompson Handbook discusses the different effective ways to do research and ideas to consider. After reading Chapter 14 in the Thompson Handbook, I realize some methods that will be resourcefully to keep in mind during our research process, specifically considering elements and potential logistics.

The first week of the white paper project I introduce myself to the group member by email. Throughout the collection of emails we discuss what roles we should take part of during the project. I was elected to take control over the graphics and design elements since my major is Computer Graphics Technology. In addition to the graphically work, I will also conduct research on our topic and take part in editing.

OK, I follow the idea of “White Papers” are created to inform and offer unique value to an organization, which is a term I had not crossed until this assignment. However, the idea they provide , as Elissa Miller states in the steak behind the sizzle, “…unbiased information and analysis” is a perplexing issue to me.

The usability testing phase is crucial for companies to conduct before releasing a new product. In the Instructor Blog #6 it defines the concept in detail by saying, “ ...products should be usable in the real world environments where they function.” While constructing a usability test it's important to select a method to test your instruction. The method you select should be appropriately fitted for your needs in order to give you the necessary feedback in order to aid your instruction.

Notes:
Since I do not have a loose EMG 81 guitar pick up set, I will create an illustration of each step. The novice instructions are straight forward to the point. At some steps of the installation, there is a yellow star at the bottom of the instruction frame that will indicate an expert step, which will guide to more difficult process. In my sample expert I showed a rough example of that will look like.

I just gather all my reference photos into one jpeg image.

The importance of a design is absolutely crucial, as the Instructor Blog #5 stated, “Design is much more crucial than many people realize. It is not merely something that dresses up information; design is how users interact with data.” As a Computer Graphic Technology major,
I have used almost all these strategies that are provided in the Thomas Handbook. I think the book did a great job in emphasizing the importance of graphic elements in a design.
