This research blog will summarize the information that is contained in the website http://www.ec.gc.ca/
cleanair-airpur/Pollution_Sources/Electricity_Generation/Coal_and_Oil_Fired_Power-WS36F53482-1_En.htm. This website consists of environmental information related to coal- and oil-fired power. This information was provided by Environment Canada, which is legally incorporated as Canada’s Department of the Environment.

The information provided by this websites discusses the impact that coal- and oil-fired power production has on the environment. This information should be unbiased and reliable since it is being provided by the government of Canada. The web page discusses many of the air emissions associated with coal- and oil- fired power production. It also discusses the environmental issues that are attributed to these emissions. These issues are discussed in detail using links provided by the website. In addition to discussing the current problems associated with these methods of power production, possible solutions to these methods are discussed.

I believe that the information contained in this website will be very beneficial and applicable while creating our white paper. Presenting this information makes it clear that there is a need to find an alternative to coal- and oil-fired power production. The detailed information about the environmental issues could be used in the supplemental “side boxes” that will be used in our white paper. Also, being able to reference the government of Canada as a source of some of our information will help increase the credibility of our white paper. This information will most likely be included early on in the white paper in order to aid in establishing the need for wind-turbines.
