Resume Critique

When I first looked at your resume I thought it was a bit jumbled and very hard to read. As I continued to look at it though I realized you were setting it up for a quick scan. I liked how you bolded your previous job titles so if I were to quickly scan your resume I could see what sort of experience you have had. I thought that you did a good job setting up your resume for the scanners.

Considering the fact that you probably passed the scanning test and your resume is getting a more thorough look through, I would recommend having some more white space. In my opinion I find your resume a little jumbled and hard to read. Maybe try to change some of the font sizes to increase the amount of white space between your sections. In my opinion the way you have it set up now seems like you are trying to fit way too much information on to one page.

I also do not like seeing your contact information at the top of the page. For some reason my eyes are automatically drawn to it, I do not really know why. Maybe because your name is so far in front of where your contact info starts or something.

Other than what I mentioned I cannot really see anything else wrong with your resume. You have a decent distribution of text on your page. Everything seems to be balanced when I did the quadrant and squint tests.

I didn’t think your resume was too crowded and I agree with the last poster that it seems as though you are setting it up as if it were going to be scanned. Having said that, there are a few formatting aspects of the resume that I think could be improved upon. For example the bolded titles on the left hand side seem odd in that they are not aligned right. Other examples would be the three columns for each line. If I were you, I would put the location right after the name of the company and the dates worked to the right side of the page. The lines also aren’t even(not sure if it just the way I’m opening it but it shouldn’t be).

The fact that the title of the company you worked for isn’t bolded but the title you had is seems a little bit backwards. If I were glancing at this, I’m going to see your position first and then be confused as to where that leaves me.

Another problem I see is that there are several different fonts, which a recruiter would probably consider unprofessional. I would also put your name above your address at the top.

I do think the resume information is very impressive and if I were a recruiter seeing these credentials I would be very impressed. However, the design and formatting flaws might turn him or her away from you as a candidate.

This is not one of my responses for class, but I just wanted to mention that the font you chose is really hard to read, especially when compared with other resume's. Change it to a font that has wider symbols. This should increase your chance of an employer seriously considering your resume.
